Eagles 2023 NFL Mock Draft: Roundup of B/R Staff, Kiper and Expert Picks

Jake RillApr 17, 2023

It's been quite some time since the Philadelphia Eagles have selected more than one player in the first round of the NFL draft. The most recent occurrence was in 1993, when the Eagles took guard Lester Holmes at No. 19 and defensive tackle Leonard Renfro at No. 24.

However, it could happen again this year. Philadelphia owns a pair of first-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft, which is set for April 27-29 in Kansas City. The Eagles have the Nos. 10 and 30 selections, having acquired the former in a trade with the New Orleans Saints.

Philadelphia may not end up using both, though. It could possibly trade down from at least one of those spots to get even more draft capital. So the team has a lot of flexibility regarding what it could do in this year's draft.

Here's a look at what some recent mock drafts are predicting the Eagles will do with their top picks this year.

No. 10 Pick

NFL.com's Chad Reuter: Trade to Minnesota Vikings

A popular pick for Philadelphia at this spot is Van Ness, who is among the best edge rushers in this year's draft class. B/R's Matt Holder believes this would be a good landing spot for the former Iowa defensive end, who never made a start in college.

"With [Brandon] Graham and Josh Sweat already in place [in Philadelphia], he can flesh out his game and serve as the fifth defensive lineman," Holder said.

The Eagles could be looking for a starter at right guard after losing Isaac Seumalo, who signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. Skoronski's NFL future could be at guard, so it'd make sense for Philadelphia to potentially target him at No. 10.

In Reuter's mock, the Eagles move all the way back to No. 23 and take Northwestern defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore at that spot.

No. 30 Pick

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.: Trade to Seattle Seahawks

ESPN's Todd McShay: Will McDonald IV, DE, Iowa State

NFL.com's Chad Reuter: Trade to Las Vegas Raiders

Kiper and Reuter each could see Philadelphia moving down from No. 30, the penultimate pick of the first round.

In Kiper's mock, the Eagles trade back seven spots to No. 37, where they then select Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The former Crimson Tide standout could be a good fit in a backfield mix with Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Gainwell. Philadelphia runs the ball a lot, so there should be enough touches to go around.

Reuter also has the Eagles selecting Gibbs, albeit a pick later at No. 38 via a different trade.

With Philadelphia likely looking to add an edge rusher and an interior offensive lineman, McDonald and Torrence each could make sense in this range. Torrence could even immediately slot in as the Eagles' starting right guard, forming a strong interior of the O-line with fellow guard Landon Dickerson and center Jason Kelce.

No. 62 Pick

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.: Jartavius Martin, DB, Illinois

ESPN's Todd McShay: Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M

NFL.com's Chad Reuter: Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M

Each of these mocks believes Philadelphia will add to its secondary in the second round. And two of them project the team to take Johnson, who was a starter during the final two seasons of his three-year career at Texas A&M.

"Johnson might be the best pure safety in the class, with a great ability to read the offense and the footspeed to close on the ball," McShay wrote.

The Eagles no longer have C.J. Gardner-Johnson (who signed with the Detroit Lions) or Marcus Epps (Las Vegas Raiders), but they signed Terrell Edmunds to fill a hole at safety. Still, it makes sense for Philadelphia to add depth at the back of its secondary.

Martin could also be a good fit. He played five seasons at Illinois, and his wealth of college experience could make for a smooth transition to the NFL.
