WWE Rumors: Buying or Selling Latest Buzz After WrestleMania 39

Chris RolingApr 6, 2023

During a normal year, the pro wrestling rumor mill after a WrestleMania is typically pretty heated and offers must-see material for fans.

This isn't any normal year, though.

WrestleMania 39 was a major hit nearly across the board, as the two-night event delivered in a big way. Arguably even bigger, however, was the revelation WWE had been sold to Endeavor.

After a tumultuous Raw after 'Mania that is usually one of the high points of the WWE calendar, speculation about Vince McMahon's involvement with creative and its impact on the roster and sport as a whole has amplified things more than usual.

Here's a look at the latest buzz and whether fans should buy or sell each item.

WWE Sale Not Impacting Roman Reigns Retaining?

1 of 3

What falls under justified speculation from some fans suggested WWE's sale to Endeavor might have influenced the outcome of the WrestleMania finale between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), though, the behind-the-scenes business maneuverings had nothing to do with the outcome.

And truthfully, why would it? WWE built a dynamic story so well between Rhodes and Reigns, never mind The Bloodline, that either Superstar winning would set off droves of interesting storylines for the next year.

WWE smartly chose Reigns, who now gets to march toward 1,000 days as champion. He'll likely feature heavily at King and Queen of the Ring on May 27 in Saudi Arabia, never mind Money in the Bank and SummerSlam beyond then.

Rhodes, meanwhile, will clearly do a program with Brock Lesnar while going on a hero's journey of sorts to get back in the mix with Reigns, either over the summer or maybe all the way to next year's Showcase of the Immortals.

Verdict: Buying

Bad Bunny Joining LWO Nixed?

2 of 3

Let speculation tell it, every little change or unexpected development can be explained by the company's sale or alterations to who does what in creative.

A Bad Bunny interaction with Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest and even the LWO on the Raw after 'Mania is a good example of this.

According to Fightful (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), WWE threw out a planned segment in which the singer would interact with the LWO.

But there weren't any major hints that WWE would keep running with LWO. Rather, Bunny got involved in the Rey-Dominik match at 'Mania, which made it pretty clear the company wanted to angle for the Grammy Award winner and Rey to team against Dominik and Priest at Backlash in Puerto Rico on May 27.

Right on cue, Bunny got involved with that trio again on Monday's Raw, getting a beating from Priest before being put through the announce table. Maybe the LWO interaction happens in time, but this storyline has been pretty clear from the beginning.

Verdict: Selling

Wrestlers looking elsewhere after apparent Vince McMahon return

3 of 3

One natural fallout from the sale of WWE is speculation that Vince McMahon would take back control of creative from Triple H, or at least heavily weigh in on things again.

Given how erratic and unusual Monday's Raw was, and with Mike Johnson of PWInsider reporting McMahon called the shots on that show, the speculation has some merit.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), at least two Superstars will "likely" ask for their release if McMahon is in control of creative. Another said they would ride out their current contract and leave.

Frankly, it's no shock Superstars would keep their eyes on other options in the industry, be it All Elite Wrestling or otherwise. This isn't even an indictment on McMahon's booking—it's simply smart for wrestlers to keep their options open, especially after such a monumental transaction for the industry as a whole.

After such a shift, it will be interesting to see which names move up and down the card and who, if anyone, actually ends up leaving for other opportunities soon.

Verdict: Buying
