WWE 2K23 Roster Ratings Reveal: Reviewing Best and Worst Picks So Far

Erik BeastonFeb 24, 2023

With the imminent release of the WWE 2K23 video game, developers have begun the process of releasing the ratings for the company's top stars and legends. And there are a few surprises among the bunch.

Some are good surprises, with higher ratings than expected for Superstars who have more than earned them; others are bad, lowballed numbers that leave fans wondering if the developers have paid attention to the last year of WWE programming.

Best: Bayley (91)

2 of 7

It is almost unfathomable that Bayley, a legitimate wrestling revolutionary and future WWE Hall of Famer, had not achieved a rating of 90 or higher to this point in her career.

Amid one of her best runs with the company, she has earned entry into the 90-plus club, thanks to her profile on Monday nights and consistent appearances in the Raw Women's Championship picture.

The Role Model still ranks behind Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, whose shadows she has long found herself in. She also finds herself trailing Raw women's titleholder Bianca Belair, but that is understandable considering her run over the past 12 months.

Coming in behind those three is hardly an insult.

Instead, the takeaway is that Bayley finally secured a rating that is reflective of her ability, resume and contributions to the long-term success of women's wrestling in WWE.

Worst: Braun Strowman (89)

3 of 7

Braun Strowman escaped obscurity to return to WWE last summer and immediately assumed the role of a midcard star.

The Monster Among Monsters was involved in some fun stuff, primarily with Ricochet, but he has never emerged as anything remotely close to a main event talent since his return.

Yet here he is, his rating just below the top crop of Superstars in this year's offering.

There was a time when no one would bat an eyelid at Strowman attaining that rating, but it has been a long time since his brawls with Roman Reigns and Universal Championship victory over Goldberg at WrestleMania 36.

Strowman is a popular big man who can thrive when surrounded by the right people, but to rank him above some of the other competitors on the roster at the moment is laughable.

Best: Jey Uso (90)

4 of 7

Jey Uso has spent the last year as one-half of the undisputed WWE tag team champions. And beyond his exploits in the ring, which saw him and brother Jimmy knock off the best and brightest teams in the sport, he was also a central figure in the top storyline in the company.

Jey was at the center of The Bloodline's saga with Sami Zayn, repeatedly expressing his distrust for The Master Strategist before accepting and defending him. Now, he finds himself at odds with Roman Reigns and potentially on the outside of the faction.

As someone who carried his fair share between the ropes and was one of the most consistently compelling names outside of them, Uso has earned inclusion in the 90-plus club.

He comes in one point higher than Jimmy, which is probably fair given the heavier lifting he has had to do from a storytelling perspective, not to mention all that lies ahead of him in 2023.

Jey has been a revelation since 2020, when he rose to prominence in his feud with Reigns, and the developers of the game have recognized that by putting him firmly in the upper echelon of Superstars in this year's game.

Worst: Sami Zayn (84)

5 of 7

It's likely the developers of WWE 2K23 had no idea Sami Zayn would explode and become the wildly popular babyface he has been in the wake of his split from The Bloodline.

They probably could not have foreseen how over he would become or how important to the company's creative plans he is.

Still, the fact that Zayn is rated so far behind others who were nowhere near the position he was in throughout 2022 is surprising.

Currently ranked higher than Zayn in the upcoming release: Strowman (89), Karrion Kross (86), Kofi Kingston (89), Sheamus (87), The Miz (85) and Xavier Woods (88).

That is not a knock on any of those Superstars, but it does put into perspective just how woefully underrated and undervalued Zayn was by the game's developers when it came time to hand out ratings.

It is almost as if 2K should have called an audible and made an adjustment because by the time the game comes out, Zayn easily could be worthy of inclusion in the upper echelon of stars by way of a 90-plus rating.

As it is, the Canadian will carry an 84 rating that feels needlessly low for someone who, even before his big babyface turn, was a weekly fixture in the top storyline in wrestling and involved in some of the most significant matches on a weekly basis.

Best: Seth Rollins (92)

6 of 7

At 92, Seth Rollins is one spot ahead of the man who beat him three successive pay-per-views, Cody Rhodes.

While that would appear to be a solid argument for The American Nightmare being underrated in the game, The Visionary has been the focal point of the Raw brand and one of its biggest stars for two years now.

Rollins has evolved from detestable bad guy to beloved babyface, and he is involved in top matches on a weekly basis. He has held the United States title, pushed Roman Reigns to the limit, gone into battle with Bobby Lashley and Austin Theory (criminally undervalued at 82 given the year he had) and is now poised to face Logan Paul at WrestleMania 39.

He may have lost those contests against Rhodes, but he was consistently at the forefront of the flagship show and has earned the rating he received.

There is even an argument to be made that it is too low and he should have been closer to the very top of the ratings. For now, though, his inclusion in the 90-plus club is just fine.

Worst: Rey Mysterio (82)

7 of 7

Rey Mysterio is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, a sure-fire WWE Hall of Famer and the cover star for the game a year ago. The fact that 2K has rated him below the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Happy Corbin, Johnny Gargano, Alexa Bliss and Damian Priest is a travesty.

Again, it is not intended to be a knock against those names, but Mysterio is a legend. He is one of the very few competitors in the GOAT discussion and can believably move in and out of the main event scene as needed.

The Master of the 619 has an impenetrable connection with the fans, and even in a down year such as 2022 he is still pretty good.

The rating here is inconceivable, especially considering just how heavily featured he was in the game a year ago. He was the centerpiece of the Showcase mode, with his career documented in several matches and moments for fans to recreate.

Now, though, Mysterio is considered no better than Omos? It's a baffling rating and, arguably, the worst of the entire roster to this point.
