Predicting 2023 WWE Elimination Chamber's Biggest Surprises and Most Shocking Moments
The annual WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view is the final major event before WrestleMania, so a lot of the results we will see Saturday will have far-reaching implications.
Roman Reigns is set to defend the Undisputed Universal Championship against a man he once thought of as one of his closest confidants, Sami Zayn.
We will also see two of the titular Chamber matches. The women will be fighting for a shot at Bianca Belair's Raw Women's Championship at WrestleMania 39, while the men will be fighting for gold when Austin Theory puts the United States Championship on the line.
Brock Lesnar is set to battle Bobby Lashley, and a mixed tag match will take place with Edge and Beth Phoenix taking on Rhea Ripley and Finn Balor.
Let's look at a few twists and turns we might see go down this weekend.
Jey Uso Turns on Sami Zayn
1 of 4Zayn went from Honorary Uce to outcast in a matter of moments at The Royal Rumble. Now, he has his sights firmly set on taking down The Tribal Chief.
The wild card in this whole situation is Jey Uso. He successfully defended the SmackDown tag titles alongside Jimmy last week, but he also appeared to show loyalty to Zayn when they ran into each other backstage.
Main Event Jey could ultimately be the person who decides the outcome of this match, and since Reigns retaining seems like the most probable result, the odds of Jey choosing to side with his family over his friend go way up.
If Jey shows up during this bout, the crowd is going to erupt. However, if he turns on Zayn and helps The Head of the Table maintain his position of power, the WWE Universe is going to turn on him in a heartbeat.
Jey turning on Zayn after everything that has happened would be heartbreaking, but it's also something that seems pretty likely right now.
If that all happens, it opens the door for Kevin Owens and Zayn to challenge The Usos for one or both sets of tag belts at WrestleMania.
Austin Theory Loses the U.S. Title
2 of 4Theory has seemed like a pet project of both the old and new regimes, but his reign as United States champion might not be as long as one would hope.
The field is stacked in the men's Chamber match. Seth Rollins, Johnny Gargano, Bronson Reed, Montez Ford and Damian Priest will all be trying to win the belt on Saturday, so the odds are not in Theory's favor.
Rollins and Priest have both held this title before, so it wouldn't be surprising if one of them added another reign to their resume.
Gargano, Reed and Ford are the three men fighting to hold their first singles title on the main roster, and frankly, having one of them win the belt would be a great surprise and one of the most preferable outcomes.
Gargano and Reed would both be fine choices to hold this title heading into WrestleMania 39, but Ford winning the belt is something that would shock people for several reasons.
For one thing, WWE rarely has stars who are still in a tag team pursue a singles championship. Secondly, Ford has a level of popularity that indicates he is ready to be a breakout star for WWE. The crowd loves him, he is one of the most physically gifted members of the roster, and he has a seemingly endless supply of charisma.
If there was ever a Superstar whose popularity and ability should be capitalized on, it's Ford. Whether Angelo Dawkins is by his side or not, this man is meant for great things.
Whether it's Ford, Rollins or someone else, it feels like Theory losing the U.S. title is a real possibility.
A Few Random Shocking Moments
3 of 4Before we get to the main event, here is a quick list of some other surprises we may see on Saturday.
- Ford will likely jump off one of the pods in the Chamber to deliver a massive frog splash.
- So will Liv Morgan.
- Asuka could pull a Shayna Baszler and end up eliminating every other competitor in the match by herself.
- Rey Mysterio may show up during Judgment Day's match to get a little payback against his son, Dominik.
The Hurt Business Reunites
4 of 4After weeks and weeks of trash-talking and sneak attacks, Lesnar and Lashley will finally do battle in what is being called the rubber match in their feud.
For the past several weeks, we have also seen MVP trying to tempt The All Mighty to reform The Hurt Business, which is even closer to becoming a reality after MVP reunited with Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander. You can probably see where this is going.
In this feud, Lashley has been playing the heel while Cowboy Brock has been the beloved babyface, and that makes a dirty win by The All Mighty even more likely.
Having Alexander, Benjamin and MVP help Lashley defeat The Beast would be a great way to kick off a second run for The Hurt Business, but more importantly, it would also put all four men in a more favorable position heading into WrestleMania.
At this point in his career, Lesnar is basically bulletproof. He is not going to suffer one bit from a loss, so he can afford to put over Lashley here.
After this feud is done, both men can move on. As great as a clean win would be for The All Mighty, having him cheat would reinforce his villainous character and make The Hurt Business a top heel group once again.
With only five matches on the card, there isn't a ton of room for surprises on Saturday, but the three listed here are all realistic and make sense for the stories WWE has been telling.
What do you think will go down during Saturday's big show?
