Super Bowl Halftime Show 2023: Final Prop Odds List, Predictions for Rihanna

Kristopher KnoxFeb 12, 2023

Super Bowl LVII will, first and foremost, be a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles to determine who will be NFL champions. For many fans, though, the halftime performance will be just as big a piece of the evening's festivities.

In fact, with pop icon Rihanna set to headline the halftime show, some fans might view the game itself as an opening act.

"To me, it's a concert," Rihanna fan Jennifer Olney said, per Neil Shah of The Wall Street Journal. "The entire Sunday is all just about—what is Rihanna going to do?"

With nine Grammy wins and more than 30 nominations, the 34-year-old performer has carved out a spot in music history. However, we're not here to focus on what Rihanna has already accomplished but rather on what she might do on Sunday.

A stunning, impressive and memorable performance can be expected, but beyond that, it's pretty much anyone's guess. Of course, previewing any halftime show wouldn't be any fun, so let's dive into some of the top prop bets and make a few predictions.

First Song to be Performed

  • Don't Stop the Music +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Stay +350
  • Diamonds +450
  • This is What you Came For +500
  • What's My Name +600
  • Lift Me Up +700
  • Other Songs Listed at OddsShark +1000 longer

While it may be tempting to go with a song featuring longer odds—like Rihanna's mega-hit "Umbrella"—sticking with one of the favorites feels like the safe play.

"Don't Stop the Music" and "This is What You Came For" are both up-tempo tracks that are suitable for kicking off a high-energy performance. However, "Stay" or "Diamonds" could be better suited for a slow build to an explosive middle portion of the performance.

"Lift Me Up," written as a tribute to late actor Chadwick Boseman serves as the lead single to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. While it could serve as a poignant kickoff to the show—and probably will be performed—the prediction here is that "Lift Me Up" and "Stay" will be mid-performance pieces with more energy at the beginning and end.

"Don't Stop the Music" feels like a winner for this prop. "Umbrella," which remains arguably Rihanna's biggest hit, feels like an equally safe bet for the final song.

How Many Songs Will Be Performed: Over/Under 9.5

Over/under props can be tricky when it comes to the number of songs in a halftime performance. One rapid-fire medley of hits can easily knock out a handful of songs in less than a minute.

However, the under at -130 (bet $130 to win $100) feels like the right call here. The Weeknd was the last solo performer during Super Bowl halftime, and he knocked out nine songs despite running through them with a fast-paced delivery.

Last year's performance, headlined by Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar featured 10 songs, even though only snippets of certain tracks made an appearance.

According to Sloan Piva of Sporting News, the last 12 performers have averaged 8.99 songs per halftime show. We'd expect Rihanna to bring some pageantry to the evening and give fans time to adequately savor her vocal performance, so we'll go with the under here.

Other Favorable Props

  • Will Rihanna Wear a Necklace On Stage: Yes (-500)
  • Will Rihanna Wear Sunglasses On Stage: Yes (+120)
  • Jay-Z to Appear On Stage During the Performance (-175)
  • Rihanna to Open an Umbrella On Stage (+175)

Rihanna is known as much for her visual style as for her voice, and we'd expect a few wardrobe and accessory changes throughout the show—and perhaps a few that are unexpected.

"It's going to be an iconic look, that's all I have to say," Rihanna's makeup artist, Priscilla Ono said, per Desiree Murphy of Page Six Style.

While it's hard to predict the color of Rihanna's first outfit—yes, that's another available prop—it would be a pretty big surprise if she doesn't wear some form of necklace with at least one iteration of her attire.

Likewise, it wouldn't be a shock to see Rihanna whip out a pair of sunglasses to go with a wardrobe change. At least, that feels more likely than her appearing with a tablet or computer, which is another available prop.

The last two props we like revolve around "Umbrella"—a memorable number featuring Jay-Z. To not hear the song at all would be a major stunner, and the show's musical director, Adam Blackstone, has teased at least one guest performance.

"I think you'll be in for a surprise," Blackstone, told Good Morning America last month (h/t Rania Aniftos of Billboard).

It's also worth noting that Jay-Z's company, Roc Nation, has partnered with the NFL to help organize Rihanna's performance.

As for the umbrella? If Rihanna performs her signature song, there's virtually no chance that she doesn't bring one of those on stage, too.
