NFLPA Reveals All-Pro Voting by Position; Derrick Henry, Ja'Marr Chase Not Included

Adam WellsFeb 2, 2023

The NFL Players Association has unveiled the full results from its first-ever All-Pro team, with some notable players absent from the top five of their position groups.

In a deep year for wide receivers, Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase didn't crack the top five. The list was headlined by Justin Jefferson, Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill and A.J. Brown.

Derrick Henry, who finished second in the NFL with 1,538 rushing yards, wasn't deemed one of the five-best running backs this season. Four of the five players who made the cut are understandable: Josh Jacobs, Nick Chubb, Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley.

The other member of that group is Tony Pollard. The Dallas Cowboys running back did set career-highs in rushing yards (1,007), yards from scrimmage (1,378) and total touchdowns (12), but Henry beat him in all three categories while playing for a team with an unsettled quarterback situation for the final three weeks of the regular season.

Here's how the NFLPA voted for the All-Pro team at each position.

Chase was on the wrong end of bad luck to miss out on a spot in the top five. He missed four games during the regular season because of a hip injury.

Jefferson, Adams, Diggs, Hill and Brown played in every game for their teams during the regular season.

On a per-game basis, Chase ranked sixth among that group in receiving yards per game (87.2). His nine receiving touchdowns were more than Jefferson (eight) and Hill (seven).

There aren't a lot of surprises in the voting outside of those two spots. Perhaps the head-scratcher on offense outside of the skill-position players is Quenton Nelson finishing third among all left guards.

Nelson was charged with allowing 31 pressures, six quarterback hits and five sacks this season by Pro Football Focus' grading (h/t Kevin Hickey of Colts Wire).

Four of the five starters along the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line were voted among the top five players at their respective positions. Isaac Seumalo at right guard was the only member of that group not to crack the NFLPA list.

On the defensive side of the ball, New York Jets rookie Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner finishing fourth at cornerback stands out. He was named to the All-Pro first team as voted on by the Associated Press.

Gardner led the NFL with 20 pass breakups and 54 yards allowed in man coverage. The frontrunner for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year had a strong argument as the best cornerback in the league this season.
