Lions' Jamaal Williams on NFL Celebration Fines: 'Trying to Take My Personality Away'
Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams got a lot of chances to dance in the end zone this season, but he racked up $31,827 in fines for excessive celebration.
"I just feel like they're trying to take my personality away, my joy," Williams said of the fines on The 33rd Team podcast (h/t Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk). "Because now, I literally have to stop doing it. So now, when I score, I'm literally just gonna sit down and pout like a little baby or something."
Williams scored an NFL-best 17 rushing touchdowns this year, gyrating his hips in a dance move after nearly every one:

He picked up two fines, one worth $13,261 after Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings and a second for $18,566 after the season finale against the Green Bay Packers:
Some have compared the dance to the famous Key & Peele sketch, where an excessive celebration is only called after "three pumps."
After the Week 3 game, which also featured a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, Williams said the dance isn't new.
"Man, I've been doing that forever," he told reporters. "That's why I was trippin'. I thought it was a holding call or something. I'm like, did they just flag me for doing the dance that I've been doing forever? Literally forever? Before Key & Peele?"
The NFL is still trying to draw a line with celebrations, even if the dancing is shown in social media posts.
"I feel like I'm not doing nothing wrong. They're just being weenies," Williams said. He added: "They want to fine me, yet put all that stuff up there and brand it and put me up there and use it. But they want to take my money, though."
