Patrick Mahomes 'Proud' to Face Jalen Hurts in 1st Super Bowl with 2 Black QBs
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes discussed what it meant to be part of the first Super Bowl with two Black starting quarterbacks during an interview with Audacy's 610 Sports Radio (Kansas City).
"I am proud," he said (13:24). "We came a long way. As I've gotten into the NFL and learned more and more about the history of the Black quarterback, I'm happy that we're going to be on this stage. It couldn't be against a better guy in Jalen Hurts. … I'm glad that we're going to be able to represent the Black quarterback in the biggest game of them all."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
As Ben Church of CNN noted, Mahomes became the third Black quarterback to win the Super Bowl when he led the 2019 Chiefs to the Lombardi Trophy. Doug Williams of the 1987 Washington team was the first to do so, while Russell Wilson led the 2013 Seattle Seahawks to the title.
If Kansas City defeats the Philadelphia Eagles, Mahomes will be the first Black quarterback to win multiple Super Bowls.
Wilson came close, but the 2014 Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots.
It is fitting that Mahomes and Hurts will face each other with the Lombardi Trophy on the line, as they were in the middle of the MVP race throughout the season.
They both may be at less than 100 percent come game day with Mahomes dealing with an ankle injury and Hurts playing through a shoulder concern, but that hasn't stopped them from making history.
