Anthony Davis Says His 'Body Feels Good' After Returning from Injury for Lakers
Anthony Davis' return to the lineup after missing 20 games was a rousing success for the Los Angeles Lakers in Wednesday's 113-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
Speaking to reporters after scoring 21 points off the bench, Davis said his foot and ankle are "fine" and his body "feels good" following his first game since Dec. 16.
This was the first time Davis came off the bench since Dec. 18, 2013. He only played 26 minutes, but he picked up right where he left off prior to the injury.
The eight-time All-Star went 7-of-15 from the field and grabbed 12 rebounds. It's his 19th double-double in just 27 games.
Davis missed the past six weeks due to a stress reaction in his foot from the Dec. 16 win over the Denver Nuggets. The Lakers went a respectable 10-10 in 20 games without their superstar center.
There were some signs of rust early in the game for Davis. He missed his first two shot attempts and hit the backboard on a free-throw attempt, but the rest of the game looked largely like it has for him all season.
Lakers fans got a scare in the third quarter when Zach Collins took away Davis' landing spot on a three-point attempt, causing the big man to roll his right ankle before hitting the floor.
"I almost fainted," head coach Darvin Ham told reporters about the play. "To see him jump up, bounce up, 'Big Fella, you good?' He said, 'I'm all right. I'm OK.' So, that was a huge relief to see him overcome that unfortunate play."
Collins was assessed a flagrant-1 foul as a result of the play. Davis remained in the game and was part of the Lakers' closing lineup for the final six minutes of the fourth quarter.
San Antonio was a great opponent for Davis to get his legs back underneath him. Things will get more difficult for him and the Lakers on Saturday when they play the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.
