Woj: Mavericks' Luka Dončić Expected to Be 'Day-to-Day' with 'Mild' Ankle Injury
The Dallas Mavericks announced star Luka Dončić was ruled out for Thursday's game against the Phoenix Suns with a left ankle sprain, though it's reportedly not expected to sideline him for long.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Dončić is "expected to be day-to-day" with a "mild sprain."
Dončić hasn't missed too much time this season. He sat out a Nov. 16 matchup against the Houston Rockets for rest and also missed a Dec. 10 matchup against the Chicago Bulls with a right quadricep strain.
The 23-year-old most recently missed a Dec. 17 matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a right quad strain.
Dončić is in the midst of his best season in the NBA, averaging 33.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 45 games while shooting 49.7 percent from the floor and 35.1 percent from deep.
Losing the star point guard for even a couple games is a major blow for the Mavericks, who went 10-10 last season when he was sidelined. So far this season, Luka sports a 38.2 percent usage rate, which ranks second behind only Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Mavericks sit sixth in the Western Conference with a 26-24 record after Thursday's win over the Suns.
