15 Young NFL Players with the Highest Ceilings

Bradlee RossDec 31, 2011

The NFL is full of young talents that have high ceilings for their potential. There are 15 guys that stand out above the crowd in this way, and they are outlined in this article.

Whether its Ndamukong Suh with the Detroit Lions, Dez Bryant with the Dallas Cowboys or Von Miller with the Denver Broncos, they are all young players who've shown the potential to be great.

Here are 15 of those guys with the highest talent ceilings.

Ndamukong Suh

1 of 15

Ndamukong Suh has highest potential of any defensive lineman drafted in the last few years.

In 2010, Suh recorded 66 tackles and 10 sacks, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl. His numbers are down this year due to a suspension (35 tackles, three sacks), but it's still clear that this guy is unbelievably talented.

At 24 years old, Suh is nowhere near his prime, which is terrifying for opposing offenses.

Dez Bryant

2 of 15

When Dez Bryant slipped down into the 20s in the 2010 NFL draft and was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys, it was considered a steal based on the talent this guy has.

But there was a reason. Bryant has had off the field issues since his prolific days at Oklahoma State, when he was forced to sit out an entire season for lying to the NCAA.

Although he's still had some issues recently (he just got sued by a loan company), his play has been stellar considering the playmakers he has to share the ball with.Bryant has caught 57 passes for 858 yards and nine touchdowns.

He's just 23 and clearly has immense talent. If he can get his act together off the field, he could be a top-five receiver in the NFL.

Jason Pierre-Paul

3 of 15

After a slow rookie season, Jason Pierre-Paul has exploded as one of the best young defensive ends in the league. Pierre-Paul has 81 tackles and 15.5 sacks this season as just a second-year player.

If he can keep improving, he'll be one of the best, if not the best, pass rushers in the NFL year in and year out.

Von Miller

Von Miller may just be a rookie, but the man knows how to play the game of football.

The first-year outside linebacker has 64 tackles and 11.5 sacks this season and has been a big part of the Broncos success. As all young players do, Miller has some areas to improve in such as run defense and not disappearing against better opponents.

If he can work on those things, he'll be one of the best OLB's in the league.

DeMarco Murray

5 of 15

A testament to DeMarco Murray's talent as a rookie is how badly the Dallas Cowboys are missing him.

The former Oklahoma Sooner has run for 897 yards and averaged 5.5 yards per carry in an injury-abbreviated season. Those stats include a 253-yard performance against St. Louis that broke a guy named Emmett Smith's record.

Forgive me for the name-dropping, but this cat is good.

Cam Newton

6 of 15

Cam Newton cannot be left off this list. After accounting for 34 touchdowns and 4,.567 yards in his rookie season, future hopes for Newton will be extremely high. They should be.

This guy is 6'5" and 250 pounds. He has NFL size, a superb arm and is a power runner that won't be worn down by taking hits.

If a GM could build a perfect quarterback, it would look a lot like this guy.

A.J. Green

7 of 15

Another rookie, A.J. Green is having one of the best seasons a rookie wide receiver can have. He's caught 63 passes for 1,031 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 6'4", 200-pound pass-catcher has been a big part of the Bengals success and has set himself up to have a great career going forward.

LeSean McCoy

8 of 15

Sometimes, good players can get lost in the shuffle of a "Dream Team." That hasn't happened to LeSean McCoy.

McCoy has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for the Philadelphia Eagles. The 23-year-old has rushed for 1,309 yards and 17 touchdowns. That puts him at second in rushing yards and first in rushing touchdowns in the NFL.

This guy is just 23 and is already a top-five running back in the NFL. His ceiling is too high to see yet.

Julio Jones

9 of 15

Atlanta Falcons rookie wide receiver Julio Jones has caught 50 passes for 883 yards and six touchdowns. He's done all that while missing four games and having share passes with a guy named Roddy White.

Jones is big (6'3'), strong and fast (4.39 in the 40-yard dash). He'll only get better, especially as White declines toward the end of his career.

Andy Dalton

10 of 15

An early second-round pick back in April, Andy Dalton has exceeded everyone's expectations by coming in and starting immediately for the Cincinnati Bengals and doing very well.

The emergence of A.J. Green has been huge for Dalton, but he's done a good job of spreading the ball around to all of his various weapons.

Dalton has never been the most talented guy, but he has a high ceiling because of his football IQ. He makes good decisions and has proven he has what it takes to lead a team to the precipice of the playoffs.

Beanie Wells

11 of 15

In his third season with the Arizona Cardinals, Beanie Wells is the starting running back. He's proven he can handle the workload.

The 23-year-old has rushed for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games. Wells is something for Cardinal fans to cheer about, something they desperately needed this year. They'll be cheering even louder later on.

Victor Cruz

12 of 15

After doing nothing during this rookie season, Victor Cruz has exploded for the New York Giants this season. The 25-year-old wide out has caught 76 passes for 1,358 yards and eight touchdowns. In one season, this guy went from nothing to ranking third in the league in receiving yards.

Cruz has established himself as a dangerous receiving threat. With Eli Manning to throw him the ball, he'll just get better.

C.J. Spiller

13 of 15

C.J. Spiller has not been as good as most expected him to be in the NFL. But the potential is there.

He was good after Fred Jackson went down with an injury this season, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Spiller is ridiculously fast and, although he may not be a great between-the-tackles back, he is very good in space.

Look for him to get better and better as the Buffalo Bills find more and more creative ways to use him.

Joe Haden

14 of 15

Joe Haden was a highly touted defensive back coming out of Florida. He's lived up to the billing.

After having a stellar rookie year with six interceptions, his interception production has dropped off a bit as he hasn't gotten any this year. His tackling has stayed consistent though, going from 50 in his rookie year to 57 this year.

Haden has the potential to be a shut down corner in this league and is well on his way to fulfilling that potential.

Eric Berry

15 of 15

Eric Berry missed this entire season with a torn ACL. Berry's nickname is "The Fifth Dimension" and it fits based on his rookie year.

The second-year strong safety had 77 tackles and for interceptions last season, and there's no reason to think he won't be back to that form next season.

Berry has good size at 6'0" and 211 pounds and will be a key part of the Chiefs' defense moving forward.
