WWE WrestleMania History: Most Impressive Stats Throughout PPV's Legacy

Mike ChiariApr 1, 2022

WrestleMania has long been the biggest spectacle in professional wrestling, and the 38th edition of the Showcase of the Immortals is set for Saturday and Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Given that WrestleMania is nearly four decades old, many performers have established themselves as being synonymous with the event and have accomplished things that may never be matched.

Meanwhile, many of the stars of today are putting their imprint on the Show of Shows as well and have a chance to cement their place in the WWE history books.

Ahead of what promises to be one of the biggest WrestleManias of all time, here is a look at some of the most remarkable stats to have been accrued over the course of WrestleMania history.

The Undertaker's 27 WrestleMania Matches and 25-2 Record

It is difficult to argue with the notion that no performer in WWE history has ever enjoyed more success at WrestleMania than The Undertaker.

The Deadman made his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania 7 in 1991, beating WWE Hall of Famer "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. He would then be victorious in each of his next 20 WrestleMania matches, giving him a record of 21-0.

While it took several years for WWE to acknowledge it, "The Streak" developed into one of the biggest WrestleMania storylines each year and led to legendary matches against the likes of Kane, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Batista, Edge, CM Punk, AJ Styles and others.

It wasn't until WrestleMania 30 that the streak finally came to an end when The Phenom shockingly fell to Brock Lesnar.

Ending his in-ring career there would have been impressive enough, but Taker went on to compete at five more WrestleManias, running his career record to 25-2 at the event.

In addition to racking up the most unbelievable record in WrestleMania history, The Undertaker also has the most WrestleMania matches to his credit with 27, putting him four ahead of Triple H in second place.

Among active wrestlers, Randy Orton has the most WrestleMania appearances with 17, and he will make it 18 when he and Riddle defend the Raw Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 38.

If Orton stays healthy and competes at the next 10 WrestleManias, he can match The Undertaker. While that is possible, it is a tough hill to climb, meaning Taker may have that record for many years to come.

Record Attendance of 101,763 at WrestleMania 32

Many WrestleManias have packed arenas and stadiums over the years, but none contained more fans than WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium.

WWE billed WrestleMania 32 as having 101,763 fans in attendance, which broke the previous WrestleMania attendance record of 93,173 for WrestleMania 3 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.

Those on hand for WrestleMania 32 saw Roman Reigns beat Triple H for the WWE Championship in the main event, as well as The Undertaker defeating Shane McMahon in a Hell in a Cell match and Charlotte Flair beating Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat for the WWE Women's Championship.

There aren't many, if any, venues capable of holding as many fans as AT&T Stadium. Because of that, the WrestleMania attendance record may stand for quite some time.

WWE is going back to AT&T Stadium this year for WrestleMania 38, but WrestleMania is now a two-night event and has been since WrestleMania 36.

That means WWE could conceivably reach 101,763 fans on one or both of the nights of WrestleMania 38, but it seems less likely that a two-night show will reach capacity on a single night compared to the previous one-night WrestleManias.

In terms of total attendance, all signs point toward WrestleMania 38 being the most-attended WrestleMania of all time, as WWE will only need an average slightly north of 50,500 fans per night.

Hulk Hogan's 8 WrestleMania Main Events

Main eventing WrestleMania is a sign that a Superstar is viewed as the top dog in WWE, and nobody has done it more than WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.

Of the first nine WrestleManias, Hogan competed in the main event of eight of them, and his eight career WrestleMania main events remains a record.

The only one of the first nine WrestleManias that Hogan didn't headline was WrestleMania 4, which was main evented by "Macho Man" Randy Savage beating "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase in the finals of a tournament for the vacant WWE Championship.

Hogan headlined WrestleMania 1, tagging with Mr. T against "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. He followed that up with main events against King Kong Bundy (WrestleMania 2), Andre the Giant (WrestleMania 3), Savage (WrestleMania 5), The Ultimate Warrior (WrestleMania 6), Sgt. Slaughter (WrestleMania 7), Sid Justice (WrestleMania 8) and Yokozuna (WrestleMania 9).

While The Hulkster wasn't billed to main event WrestleMania 9, he faced and defeated Yokozuna in an impromptu match for the WWE title after Yoko beat Bret Hart.

When Reigns faces Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 38, it will be Reigns' sixth career WrestleMania main event, all of which have occurred over the past eight years.

Given that Reigns is WWE's top star and hasn't given any signs that he intends to step away in the near future, he could put Hogan's WrestleMania main event record in jeopardy in the coming years.
