
Tony La Russa Passes John McGraw for 2nd-Most Wins by Manager in MLB History
Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa moved to second place on the all-time wins list among managers following Sunday's 3-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers, passing John McGraw.
La Russa now sits at 2,764 wins, trailing record-holder Connie Mack by an incredible 967 victories:

The White Sox have played well in La Russa's first year back as manager and second stint for the organization, going 36-23, though the season hasn't been without its controversies. La Russa criticized Yermin Mercedes in early May after the White Sox rookie hit a homer on a 3-0 count during a blowout win.
The next day, La Russa defended his comments, telling reporters he was "willing to bet there wasn't anyone in that clubhouse that's upset that I mentioned that's not the way we compete."
He would have lost that bet. A number of White Sox players, including pitcher Lance Lynn and star Tim Anderson, came to Mercedes' defense:
Despite the pretty clear culture clash within Chicago's clubhouse between the old-school manager and at least some of his players, the White Sox continue to play well. No surprises there—the team went 35-25 last season and ended an 11-year playoff drought. Chicago is loaded with talent.
And because of it, La Russa—a Hall of Famer who last managed the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2011 season and is in his 34th season overall as an MLB manager—now sits behind only the legendary Mack on the all-time wins list.
