Barney Corkhill's Unofficial World Club Championship (UWCC) saw another defence yesterday, as champions Chelsea came up against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

With seven almost certain first team players ruled out through injury for the away team, Middlesbrough must have fancied their chances, especially playing at home.

Yet the stand-in players played better than Luis Felipe Scolari could have dreamt of. Chelsea won 5-0, but that only tells half of the story. It could've been double figures, such was their domination.

Salomon Kalou scored the first after Juliano Belletti, playing in an unfamiliar midfield role, had his shot blocked. Belletti himself scored the next, with a stunning 30-yard strike out of nothing. No doubt a contender for goal of the season.

Kalou then hit a deflected shot to get his second, before Frank Lampard made it 4-0 with a diving header to cap off a spectacular move.

An opportunistic finish by Florent Malouda following Anelka hitting the post completed the rout.

Chelsea not only remain unbeaten in UWCC history, but also in 2008. They have to be favourites for the title on this form.

92.7 percent of poll voters got the right answer last time.
