Yesterday was PA's Primary Day. I chose to spend my rainy day at the polls dressed for a game rather than any particular party. It was fun and amazing to see people (who normally would not look at me and disregard me due to Party affiliation) stop in the pouring rain to discuss the Flyers. I was soaked, psyched, and full of trivia and gave voters some tidbits to chuckle about.
That is the power of a winning Philly team.
No one was red or blue yesterday (except for a few diehards for Sestak)—we all laughed together and cheered and discussed how we thought the game would go last night. The karma is so positive that prayers and hopes might bring Lord Stanley to rest right in Philly.
Here is what I heard yesterday (a compilation of comments by people of all ages, political affiliations and walks of life)...Where did we get Leighton? We better keep the goalie. A shut out, can you believe it? Will Carter help or hurt the team when he comes back? How about those Flyers and after such a bad season! We will win the Cup! Danny Briere is The Man. Carcillo is a hero. Pronger is the reason we are winning. The team is so solid we cannot lose. Mike Richards is the best! Laviolette for coach of the year. I really like the Devils, but I am a Flyers fan now. Bet we sweep.
And everyone shouted Go Flyers!
The Flyers indeed had another shut out last night. I have never seen a team outshot by a mile and just defend and defend, keeping any Habs puck from going into the net. We managed one goal per period, which was comfortable but scary.
The question is: will we do this in Montreal? How long can this team run on pure adrenaline? I agree with the voter who asked about the return of Carter...does bringing him back in add to the talent or disrupt the rhythm we have at this time?
"We didn't play our best game," Danny Briere was saying after the Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens, 3-0, last night in Game Two of the Eastern Conference Finals. "We know it." It was good enough thanks to Leighton and Pronger, but now we are on the Habs' ice and they are ready to rumble.
Again, it was all Leighton (Happy 29th Birthday, Michael) and he has played 165 minutes and 50 seconds—shades of Bernie Parent and this team has the Bullies spirit to back him up! It is a team effort and as a friend of mine says "even the bums are good"—that is pure Philly talking!
Whatever it is that pushes this team, let them continue to make history every time they hit the ice. They unite us as a community and I tested that yesterday dressed up in orange and black when people were thinking about red and blue.
What a great time to be a Flyers' fan!
