Los Angeles Clippers: The Best Team in the NBA Has a New Celebrity Fan

The Clippers won, the Clippers won!!

Tonight's victory over the Warriors marks the Clippers fourth "W" since March 1.  Ponder that for a minute, won't you?  Four wins since March 1.  Can you see why I'm so excited?

I just can't hide it.

The Clippers won!

They did it with a make-shift lineup that included significant minutes for Mardy Collins, Bobby Brown, and Steve Novak.  Now, Novak has been around a while and no stranger to Clipper fans.  Former coach Mike Dunleavy seemed to love inserting Novak into games with seconds left so he could watch someone else hoist up a shot.

Collins and Brown however have seen more bench time over the last few games than Laker coach Phil Jackson, who rarely strays far from his captain's chair.  Collins was actually at the line with the game on the line and sank one of two free-throws.

Brown is a local boy from Cal State Fullerton who logged 14 minutes and contributed seven points.

All in all, this was a nice team victory.  The Clippers won!

In so doing, they now become the greatest team in the history of the NBA.

Finally.  This is how it works.

All parents of kids in youth sports are familiar with sports math.  Say your son or daughter has a game against TEAM-A.  TEAM-A, lost to TEAM-B in an earlier matchup.  Although your kid's team has yet to take on TEAM-B this year, you remember how you were able to defeat them soundly only a year earlier.

So, if your team beat TEAM-B, and TEAM-A lost to TEAM-B, then TEAM-A is just awful.  Ergo, your team will enjoy a romp against the aforementioned TEAM-A.

Sports math.

Before facing the Clippers, Don Nelson guided his Warriors to victory number 1,333.  That win made Nelson the winningest coach in the history of the NBA. 

Congratulations Don Nelson.

Now, time to apply sports math.

If Don Nelson is the winningest coach in the history of the NBA (he is)

THEN when your team defeats a team coached by him, YOUR team becomes the greatest team in the history of the NBA.

Its kind of like the Pythagorean Theorem.  You remember that don't you?  A-squared plus B-squared = C-squared .  It's the law.

Same goes for Don Nelson led team plus victory for your team = winner being the greatest of all time .  You can't argue with math.

If the Clippers front office was on top of this, they would petition the league for entry into the playoffs based on this sole fact alone.  I believe, however, that they are too busy crossing T's and dotting I's on LeBron James' Clipper contract.  How can you say "no" to playing for the greatest team in the history of the NBA?

So, with the Clipper front office asleep at the wheel and the playoffs not a possibility for the team from Los Angeles, I'm left to look back with sadness and forward with delight. 

I have enjoyed my time as the FC for the Clippers.  When I first accepted the assignment, the Clippers were riding high.  The team was heading towards .500 (that should have been my first clue as I look back—never has a team been so motivated and excited to reach mediocrity!), and playing well.

Blake Griffin was healing and scheduled to see action in a Clipper uniform.  Los Angeles was a buzz.  Life was good.  Then, that water main broke in Memphis and it all went down hill quickly.

I will be attending the Clipper game on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks.  I will attend for a few different reasons. 

First and foremost, to support the Clippers.  God knows they need it.  Additionally, I am there to see if I can close out my inaugural Clipper FC season by interviewing the actor that has surpassed Billy Crystal and Frankie Munoz as the No. 1 celebrity Clipper fan.  That's right, the Clippers version of Jack Nicholson.

I want to interview Rondell Sheridan.

If you don't know who he is then ask your kids.  Sheridan played the quirky father to Raven Simone on the Disney Channel show "That's so Raven."  He reprised the role for the spin-off called "Cory in the House."  Today, he is a Clipper fan.

I've seen him at every game I've been at and think its time to give this actor/comedian a voice. Why the Clippers?  How long you been coming to games?  Who is your favorite player?  If you were a tree, what type would you be?

These and more riveting questions are in store for Sheridan if I can just corner him long enough to ask him.  This Monday is my last chance.

That sounds like the greatest sports Monday in the history of the world, huh?
