2010 NFL Draft: Jared Gaither Is Shaking Up the Top 10

Old AccountApr 2, 2010

With the 2010 NFL draft less then a month away, the talk of the draft is the top 10.

Will Sam Bradford go No. 1 overall? Will Jimmy Clausen crack the top five? Will Earl Thomas crack the top 10?

These questions may become reality, due to Ravens offensive tackle Jared Gaither.

A former supplemental draft selection, Gaither has turned out to be much more then what Baltimore could have expected.

Starting as the left tackle since coming aboard, his value has increased greatly over this offseason.

Michael Oher, the Ravens first round pick last year, has star caliber written over him. Oher is likely to take the reigns of the left tackle position either in 2010 or the 2011 season.

Why? Because it is unlikely that Gaither will return to the Ravens in two seasons. Gaither has made it known he wants to be paid like a left tackle, which does not bold well for the Ravens.

Originally believed to be had for a first round pick, the front office has lowered their asking price to a second round pick.

Since then, quite a few teams could be in contention for Gaither. A list? You shall receive: Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and the Seattle Seahawks.

A common theme? All of these teams are in the top 10.

On Thursday, it was reported that Jimmy Clausen was visiting the Washington Redskins, and scheduled a private workout for them.

This could lead to a few scenarios. Gaither attended University of Maryland, which is close to the Redskins campus. If Gaither is dealt, his priority would be to stay within the Maryland area.

The Redskins seem as the best fit for Gaither. Not only is the offensive tackle a major concern, but the Redskins would surely be willing to pay the cash to lock him up for years to come.

The second round pick would be the fourth overall selection, where the Ravens may not have many better options to go to.

As of now it is pure speculation whether Gaither will move, and even if all these teams are showing interest.

However, the Jared Gaither talk is beginning to shake up this years draft, specifically the top 10 selections.
