NFL Free Agency: QB Jason Campbell

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoFeb 17, 2010

The 2010 NFL Draft is coming soon, and many teams are jockeying for position to acquire the best players for their team. Jason Campbell, quarterback for the Washington Redskins, has been mentioned as a possible free agent candidate for several teams: Washington, along with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Denver Broncos.

His current status is that of a restricted free agent; still, each of these teams have their reasons to acquire Campbell. Whether Campbell returns to the Redskins is another matter. His stats during 2009 were 20 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, and 3618 yards, resulting in an overall QB rating of 86.4.

I could only see the Vikings looking for Campbell as a replacement for Brett Favre if he retires. Brett Favre still has some more years ahead of him if he wants to keep playing. His recorded 33 touchdowns, seven interceptions, 4,202 yards and a QB rating of 107.2 in 2009: As long as he's on the team, the Vikings will not look to Campbell.

The Arizona Cardinals might want an additional quarterback to help Matt Leinart, who threw a whopping zero touchdowns, three interceptions, and 435 yards, translating to a  64.6 QB rating. With Kurt Warner retiring, the Arizona Cardinals are another team that may want Campbell.

The St. Louis Rams and the Buffalo Bills are in need of a quarterback, taking into account their poor performance during last season. It's possible that Campbell is on their list of potential replacements.

The last team to be mentioned is the Denver Broncos. As their quarterback, Kyle Orton threw 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for 3,802 yards and a QB Rating of 86.8. The Denver Broncos may be on the market for a different signal caller, but in this writer's opinion, Orton could remain for another season.

While I'm not an expert in drafts or predictions, it's my opinion that Jason Campbell may remain with the Redskins, or sign with either the Cardinals or the Rams. It remains to be seen what will happen.
