An Open Letter to Fellow Detroit Lions Fans: I'm Tired

To whom it may concern,

Ok, I've had enough.

For nearly 40 years, I have watched, I have waited and hoped for the Lions to succeed.

I began to watch the Lions in earnest in 1970 when they went 10-4 and finished second in the NFC Central.  They went to the playoffs to face the Dallas Cowboys only to lose to them, 5-0, in the lowest scoring playoff game in NFL history.

Seems the Lions and NFL history always has them on the losing side, doesn't it?

From a 1-10 playoff record to 2008's monumental 0-16 season, the Lions history is nothing but a wasteland of broken dreams and hearts.

Yesterday's 32-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks was typical of how the Lions continually wear the fans down.  Jumping out to a 17-0 lead, playing an inspired defense, intercepting two passes resulting in 14 points and stopping the Hawks on a 4th and 1 and converting it to a field goal, they grabbed your attention.

But then, someone must have reminded them who they were because for the next three quarters, they disappeared, nowhere to be found as the Seahawks came back and scored 25 unanswered points.

I'm done trying to convince myself that anyone above the head coach level wants the Detroit Lions to win.

I'm tired of constantly defending my reasons for being a Detroit Lion fan.  I've given 40 years of loyalty but have gotten little in return.

I'm fed up with this organization running an NFL organization with the bottom line as the driving factor as opposed to a winning record.

I'm over with watching the Lions draft a great player and expect him to carry them to the playoffs with little or no support.

I'm fed up, fried, disenchanted, disheartened, demoralized, angry, irked, irate, ticked off, annoyed, exasperated, incensed, outraged and irritated with William Clay Ford, Sr. as an owner.  He should be put away in an old folk's home and the key thrown away.

Will this be the last article I write about the Lions?  At this point, I just don't know.  I'm probably going to take a break...too much negativity can fry your mind.

So I must step away for awhile, at least a couple of weeks.  I'll be reading other articles and perhaps even offering my two cents.

Take care,

Seattle Lion Fan
