Jarvis Landry Predicts Dolphins Will Sweep Patriots in 2017 Season

Timothy RappApr 12, 2017

Wide receiver Jarvis Landry told a London crowd during an NFL UK tour Monday he believes the Miami Dolphins will sweep the New England Patriots this upcoming season, per Peter King of the MMQB.

Landry added: "If you're a competitor, that's the way you should feel, and I don't mind saying it. It's time for a change. I have all the respect in the world for the Patriots, and I respect Tom Brady tremendously. But they're not our big brother anymore."

The Patriots are 22-10 against Miami since 2001, when Tom Brady took over as the starter. You have to go back to the 2000 regular season to find the last time the Dolphins swept the Patriots in the regular season.

The Patriots have been dominant in the Bill Belichick and Brady era, but Landry has the utmost confidence in second-year head coach Adam Gase:

"

He's flipped the switch with us. New England's won the division 14 of the last 16 years, something like that? It's ridiculous. It's a problem. We cannot let that happen anymore. What I've seen is, when we play that game, sometimes we focus on the guys on the other side of the line instead of just focusing on us. And I want to be part of that change. I want to go into the games against New England expecting to win—that's something we need to do.

"

As King pointed out, "there wasn't a speck of disrespect or smack talk about the Patriots" in Landry's comments.

Landry has earned the right to be a vocal leader. Since being a second-round pick by the Dolphins in 2014, he's caught 288 passes for 3,051 yards and 13 touchdowns, eclipsing 1,000 yards receiving in two consecutive seasons.

For Landry, it all comes down to a competitive spirit.

"Losing, sometimes I need to just get lost after a game because it hurts so much. I just live for winning. If we sat down right now and played Connect Four, I'd be pissed off if you beat me. It's in me. It's still a hill to climb with New England, but we need to expect to win. That's it."
