The Washington Capitals avoided elimination with a 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 on Saturday night.
After falling in three straight one-goal contests, the Caps used their home-ice advantage to extend the Eastern Conference matchup. Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie and Justin Williams each scored.
Braden Holtby tallied 30 saves. Washington didn't allow a shot during the final three minutes of the third period after the Penguins pulled Matt Murray, who managed 16 stops.
Chris Kunitz notched Pittsburgh's lone tally. On the bright side for the Penguins, they return home with a 3-2 series edge and are 4-1 at the Consol Energy Center during the playoffs.
Saturday, however, belonged to the Capitals.
