The NBA season isn't over yet, but that's not stopping Carmelo Anthony from looking to free agency for ways the New York Knicks can reinforce their roster.

Speaking about Sacramento Kings point guard Rajon Rondo, Anthony said, "I think he'd be perfect in a system like this," per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

After his disastrous stint with the Dallas Mavericks last year, Rondo has only increased his value with the Kings. He's averaging 11.8 points and a league-high 12 assists per game in Sacramento. Given the Knicks' issues at point guard, he'd be a nice addition for them down the line.

Melo also said that he plans to help lure marquee free agents to the Big Apple during the offseason, per Newsday's Al Iannazzone. According to Bondy, he played a more passive role last summer:

The Knicks won't have a first-round pick in the 2016 draft unless they acquire one. The Denver Nuggets have the right to swap picks with New York, and then the Toronto Raptors will receive the Knicks' eventual selection, per RealGM.

Making a big splash or two in free agency is essentially the only way the Knicks can speed up their rebuilding plan. Aside from Kristaps Porzingis, they don't have the kind of assets to trade for an All-Star-caliber player, and New York isn't going to move Porzingis.

With the salary cap set to climb to roughly $89 million for the 2016-17 season, the Knicks will have some money to spend; the question is whether Anthony and team president Phil Jackson will be able to convince top stars to sign with New York.

The franchise is stuck in a vicious cycle where it isn't an attractive destination until it starts winning games, but it can't start winning without radically overhauling its roster, which is extremely difficult given the factors involved. As much as Anthony will want to fast-track the Knicks' plans, it may be a while before the team is a title contender again.
