Blue Jackets Fan Promised Dog If Cam Atkinson Scores Goal, Player Nets Hat Trick

Kyle NewportJan 26, 2016

One young Columbus Blue Jackets fan entered Nationwide Arena Monday night with birthday wishes and puppy dreams.

And she left the game against the Montreal Canadiens fully satisfied and with more than enough ammo for future negotiations with her dad—all thanks to Columbus right wing Cam Atkinson.

Maddie (the fan) was spotted in the stands holding a sign that said her dad had promised her a dog if Atkinson scored a goal. Fortunately, he didn't promise a dog for every goal No. 13 scored—because the Blue Jackets forward netted a hat trick.

Atkinson lit the lamp with just more than five minutes to play in the first period, a goal that evened the score at 1-1. He then gave his team the lead with another score just minutes into the second period, and he capped off a 5-2 victory by completing the hat trick with a goal in the final minute of the game.

Not sure if Dad knew what he was getting himself into, but he's true to his word:

Atkinson just has one request for the family, per the Columbus Dispatch's Aaron Portzline:

Obviously:

Hopefully, Maddie and Cam the Puppy get to meet Atkinson at some point.
