Jagr Set to Tie Esposito for 5th on All-Time Goals List

Bleacher Report MilestonesFeb 17, 2015

Sitting at 716 career goals, New Jersey Devils forward Jaromir Jagr needs just one more to tie Phil Esposito for fifth place on the NHL's all-time goals list with 717, per Hockey-Reference.com's milestone tracker.

Jagr will get his fifth crack at the mark in Tuesday's game against the Buffalo Sabres following four straight goalless performances in Devils losses.

While the stats have been a bit harder to come by of late, the 43-year-old winger still figures to tie and pass Esposito by the end of this season.

Should he continue playing beyond 2014-15, Jagr can take aim at the top four of the all-time goals list, which is comprised of Wayne Gretzky (894), Gordie Howe (801), Brett Hull (741) and Marcel Dionne (731).

Ageless though he may be, Jagr has no real shot to surpass Howe or Gretzky, but the opportunity to move into third place on the all-time goals list might be motivation enough to return for a 22nd NHL season.

Jagr also ranks seventh on the all-time assists list, with his 1,068 sitting just 11 behind Adam Oates' 1,079.

For total points, Jagr ranks an even gaudier fifth, with his 1,784 leaving him 14 behind Ron Francis' 1,798 on the all-time list.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Jagr will make a run at these marks in a New Jersey uniform, as it's widely believed that he would like to be traded to a contender.

Sitting on just 51 points through 56 games, the Devils are 13 points behind the Boston Bruins—one of Jagr's former teams—for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
