Rob Gronkowski Guest Stars on 'Top Chef,' Demands Polish Sausage

Dan CarsonDec 17, 2014

Rob Gronkowski and his favorite sausage will be beamed into living rooms across the nation Wednesday courtesy of Bravo TV.

The New England Patriots tight end recently finished taping his guest-star appearance in this week’s episode of Top Chef. The show released a preview of Gronkowski’s performance wherein he challenged chefs to cook up one of his preferred dishes: polish sausage.

To say the preview is everything you’d expect out of a Gronkowski culinary crossover would not do the segment justice. One chef is scared of Gronk, and another hates him, and the show’s host, Padma Lakshmi, seemingly would prefer to drizzle him over toast.

“Do you mind if I call you Rob?” Lakshmi asked. “I know everyone calls you Gronk.”

“Yeah, that’s fine,” Gronkowski said. “I like that.”

“You can call me Honey,” Lakshmi added.

This exchange summoned a look from one chef that need not be explained.

Of course, there was also the aforementioned hater, who is a Washington Redskins fan and says he isn’t jazzed to see Gronkowski. None of that explains his slack-jawed ogling of the star tight end, however.

Finally, we have Lakshmi resigning to the joke and cutting straight through the pea soup of sexual tension.

“I have a feeling you eat a lot,” Lakshmi said.

“Yes, I eat a lot,” Gronkowski said. “I need a big sausage.”

“Me too,” Lakshmi said.

This is most certainly television writing at its finest. The meat hasn’t even touched the pan, and we’re already neck-deep in Gronkowski’s most fluent language: innuendo.

The Gronkowski sausage episode will air on Bravo at 10 p.m. ET. Bring your appetite and a fourth-grade sense of humor.
