Nick Wright of Sports Radio 610 in Houston (h/t BroBible.com's Kyle Koster) spotted an Instagram photo that the Texans defensive end appears to have "liked" while watching the game from the sidelines.
The photo was posted to Instagram shortly after kickoff Sunday (around 12:30 p.m. CT). Wright took a screenshot of the image and Clowney's "like" approximately an hour after.
So either Clowney felt parched enough to cruise Instagram while on the sidelines or his social media manager is working overtime and throwing game on his behalf.
In any case, the timing doesn't do any favors for Houston's No. 1 overall draft pick, who is reportedly making the franchise "frustrated" with his unwillingness to play through injury.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t NFL.com's Kevin Patra) reports that a source told him the Texans coaching staff is disappointed in Clowney's slow recovery from injuries:
What they want is for him to start showing some maturity and learn to play through some of these ailments. As a source mentioned to me, this is really the first time Clowney has faced any sort of injury adversity—didn't really happen in college—and they want him to try to play through it in the NFL, but they're frustrated with their No. 1 overall pick.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien rebuffed claims that the staff is displeased with Clowney's recovery.
ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio reports that O'Brien shrugged off questions about his star rookie's status after Sunday's game, telling reporters Clowney is merely experiencing an unlucky stretch of injuries:
I don't know anything about those reports, I just know what I see. I see a rookie player that is injured and is trying to come back from injury and he had a little setback this week with the flu and hopefully he'll be back ready for Cleveland. He's had a couple injuries here and a concussion, some of that is bad luck. ... I think the world of Jadeveon Clowney. I don't think there's anyone here that’s frustrated with [him].
Thirst or no thirst, it's clear Clowney is expected to put the cell phone down and suit up for Week 11's game against the Cleveland Browns.
Clowney will have plenty of time to recover over the bye week. Rest and hydration, Jadeveon: It does the body good.
