President Obama is a big sports fan, and an even bigger basketball fan. Earlier this spring, Obama filled out his brackets for the NCAA Tournament, and correctly had the North Carolina Tar Heels winning it all.
Now, The AP reports that Obama has made his pick in the Finals, and it’s the Lakers. When asked by a reporter for his official prediction, Obama smiled and said, “Lakers in six, I think.”
In other news, the Contra Costra Times reports today that Golden State may have a favorite for their seventh pick in the NBA Draft. While many felt the Warriors would focus in on a point guard, the Times says Terrence Williams, the athletic swingman from Lousiville, could be the choice.
While in our latest mock draft, we had the Warriors opting for former UCLA guard Jrue Holiday, Don Nelson and the Warriors management are very high on Williams overall basketball IQ, and although they are loaded with wingmen, why not take another?
As the deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft nears(June 15), there are players out there that are making that decision now. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that St. Marys guard Patty Mills is going to stay in the draft, no matter what.
Meanwhile, The Sacramento Bee reports Austin Daye wants to stay in the draft, but only if he’s a top 20 pick.
Daye spoke to the media after taking part in workouts at the Warriors facilities, and when asked about his draft status, said “I really don’t want to fall into the 20s,” “If that happens I’m probably going to go back to school, if that’s what they’re saying.”
