NHL Buyout Tracker 2013: Ballard, Colaiacovo, Grabovski Among Buyouts

Mark JonesJun 26, 2013

June 27 marks the opening of a wild and unusual period in the 2013 NHL offseason.

For the first time, each franchise will be able to make two amnesty buyouts this summer. The designated period runs until 5 p.m. on July 4, just one day prior to the start of free agency.

"

Compliance buyout window is now open BUT no buyout can occur until: a) player is put on waivers; b) player clears waivers 24 hrs later.

In the case of a buyout, two-thirds of the bought-out player's salary (as long as the player is at least 26 years of age) is spread out over the remaining seasons of the contract, and the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.
