The BIG Splash: Welcome to Philly Mr. Peters

Andrew KurtzApr 20, 2009

Finally, the Eagles make a move that I can completely and totally get behind. This move makes sense in every way possible. If you think the Bills got the better end of this deal, then you sir are a f**king moron. We got an elite left tackle for the No. 28 pick, a fourth-round pick this year, and a sixth-round pick next year...how awesome is that.

I love it. The big problem with Peters was that he wanted to new contract that would pay him like an elite LT. Less then 24 hours after the trade the Eagles have signed him to a six year, $60 million deal.

I don't think that is out of line at all. I think the contract is a steal for the Eagles as well. The Eagles are the best team in the NFL when it comes to judging O-line talent. If Andy Reid loves it, then I love it.

Most people are not all that familiar with Peters so let me give you some info that will make you agree with me even more. Jason Peters is a 6'4", 340 lb. mauler that came into the league as an undrafted TE in 2006.

Yeah, an athletic LT that has only been in the league for three years. In the only two years that he was a starting lineman he went to the Pro Bowl, and was an All Pro in 2007. The Bills didn't want to pony up the cash for an All Pro LT, so Peters sat out most of the Bills offseason program last year and his play suffered because of it.

His play fell off a bit last year because he didn't feel he was getting paid his worth and he had a couple nagging injuries.

With all that being said, I love this move. The guy went from being an undrafted TE to an All Pro OL in one year; his work ethic is the last thing that I would be worried about. Again, he's got his new contract and will be participating fully in the Eagles offseason program.

The Eagles were loaded with draft picks this year, so we don't take much of a hit from that stand point. With this addition, the Eagles have THE BEST OFFENSIVE LINE IN THE NFL—and I'm not the only one sharing that opinion.

On the losing end of the deal, we have the Buffalo Bums. It is hilarious to watch them destroy all hopes and dreams of a playoff birth in the offseason. Lynch is suspended for the first three games for carrying a concealed weapon.

Donte "Don't Tase Me Bro" Whitner gets arrested for participating in a "near riot" and resisting arrest in downtown Cleveland. Then, in a move that is sure to add "character" to the locker room, they sign T.O. to a one year deal.

Signing T.O. to a one-year deal seemed to be a message that they were going to make a one year run to the playoffs. Apparently they just needed some exposure, because trading Peters for draft picks doesn't seem to make much sense if that were the case.

Suck it Daniel, the Bills just lost their best player. Now you and the Bills can watch the playoffs together, at home...again.

I'M OUT
