WWE News: Smackdown 'Blast from the Past' Draws Extremely Low Rating

Justin WatryJun 2, 2018

Last night, WWE delivered a below-average Smackdown. While everybody has their own opinions, it is now time to take a look at the facts. Television ratings are in for last night's "Blast from the Past" special, and they are not very pretty.

The show drew a 1.5 rating with 2,248,000 million viewers.

The Blue Brand drew a 1.9 rating last Friday night, with 2,720,000 million viewers. They had been hovering around a 2.0 rating with three million viewers a few weeks prior to that.

My Thoughts on This News

Nobody should be surprised by this big decline. I know I'm not.

All you have to do is read over the numbers once again from the past week.

Do not forget that last week was a taped episode, with spoilers online for days before airing. This week was a brand-new live special, with many legends advertised to appear.

As I have said many times in the past, Smackdown needs to stay on Friday nights. It has been proven time and time again to be very successful there.

From last Friday to this Tuesday, Smackdown lost nearly 500,000 viewers! Once again, the Friday taped show destroyed a live Tuesday special.

Mick Foley being on didn't help. Piper's Pit was entertaining but did not draw. Any buzz from Brock Lesnar being on Raw has not shown up.

It all goes back to the same topic.

Smackdown has its home on Friday nights, just as Raw will stay on Mondays. It makes zero sense to change things and expect different results.

The only differing result is yet another low rating on Tuesday for Smackdown. At last check, this is the last live special planned for the Blue Brand, and I hope it stays that way.

Going live doesn't increase ratings despite nearly every single fan thinking otherwise.

Moving to Tuesday night does not mean more viewers. In fact, it has lost ratings nearly every single time. For example, there were 500,000 less viewers than last week's taped Smackdown.

Honestly, I would not be shocked if the repeat airing on Friday beats Smackdown's original airing last night in the ratings. This number is so low, it just may happen.

I trust the Smackdown talent going forward.

Sheamus will be World Champion for a long time. Daniel Bryan and AJ have a unique chemistry, and tons of new talent is about to be featured.

It is going to be a great year for Smackdown if, and only if, they stay on Friday nights...
