WWE Raw Results: Top 10 Moments from Last Night's Supershow
WWE Raw was a very enjoyable show last night. There were a few low points, but I liked nearly every segment on the show. It all just entertained me for two hours on a cold January evening.
If I had to give the show a grade, I would go with an A- or a B+. With that being said, let's get to the best moments! Remember, it is just my opinion...
10. WWE Hall of Fame Inductions
1 of 10Early in the show, I predicted Edge and Randy Savage would be the best choices.
Announcing Edge first was a great move. That will surely sell tickets, as he is best man for today's WWE Universe. Very deserving and nice way to promote his upcoming DVD at the same time.
I figured the second announcement would be either a deceased wrestler or an "older" talent. Seeing the Four Horsemen be inducted as a stable is very interesting.
Will every single member go in? Just the men shown on the screen? Will Ric Flair be there? How has his TNA status changed, if at all? Lots of questions!
Either way, very nice selections by WWE!
9. Fun Tag Team Match
2 of 10Sheamus and Santino faced off against Jinder Mahal and Wade Barrett. This was a fun match, but I did not like Wade being here.
He needed to be kept away from this "comedy" segment. Another promo about "taking out" Randy Orton would have been fine.
Either way, Sheamus and Santino won. Another solid win for Sheamus! I can't help but wonder why WWE announced Jinder vs. Sheamus for Smackdown, if Santino was going to pin Mr. Mahal so easily here. Odd!
8. Daniel Bryan on Raw
3 of 10Daniel Bryan beat Kofi Kingston in about a minute. Great win for the World Champion!
Or not.
Yet another "wasted" appearance by the World Champion on Raw. Honestly, just keep him off of Monday nights from now on.
He does nothing. The crowd yawns. Crickets chirp in the audience, and then he leaves. Stay on Friday nights from now on!
The man is a great talent, but his run at the top has been a disaster so far. Spin it any way you want, but even this "heel turn" I discussed back in November is not going well.
We shall see what happens this week when he defends his title against Big Show in a no rules match.
7. Punk vs. Swagger
4 of 10Jack Swagger is amazing. The man always comes through in big matches. He did so once again. That man is one "face turn" away from breaking out into a major WWE Superstar.
Losing to CM Punk is nothing to be ashamed of. I could have done without the "awkward" finish, but it seems to be teasing Johnny Ace as the referee at Royal Rumble.
If it was a mistake, then it was even worse. Just did not help this segment one bit. CM Punk once again was kept away from the main event. Remember it, folks! Ratings do matter...
6. Opening Promo
5 of 105. Bait and Switch
6 of 10This is a small complaint.
Eve mentioned that she had a match with Beth Phoenix later on in the night.
Well, that never happened. I really do not like "bait and switch" segments in this business. There is just too much to ask that I do not want to.
Will the match ever take place? What did Beth do backstage? Just stand around waiting in gear? Does Johnny Ace care? Is the ref even going to bother reacting? Does any of this matter?
Yes, it made sense in the end, but announcing the match ahead of time was not needed.
4. Miz and Truth Segments
7 of 10First of all, Rosa Mendes looked excellent!
I really liked The Miz trying to avoid R-Truth all night. It was great to see him actually think ahead instead of just waiting to be attacked like every other week.
Ricardo interacting with the Bella Twins was funny. I just wish Ricardo is healthy. His fall at TLC was way too dangerous for my liking, so I hope all is well now.
Of course, everybody in the ring did an "awesome" job. Miz gets one over on Truth, and the feud continues for another week. Easy, yet effective!
3. Final 20 Minutes
8 of 10Well, Zack Ryder is back to looking like a "goof." Still don't believe TV ratings play a role in WWE going forward? He really needs to act like a champion. Hopefully, his tone changes next week against Jack Swagger on Raw. Big United States title match there...nice plug for next Monday!
John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler was fine for what it was, but nobody was focused on that match here. Vickie Guerrero did look amazing, though. The entire segment with Ryder, Eve and Kane in the parking lot was good. It can't be done every week, but I like it for a "one-time, movie-like scene."
In the end, Kane beats up Cena and Ryder, and Eve is off running scared somewhere in the streets. Good job making Kane look dominant this week!
2. Jericho Entertains Again
9 of 10Once again, Chris Jericho was masterful. The little "heel" antics are slowly going to come out week by week. The best clue was Justin Roberts announcing how he beat Stone Cold and The Rock in the same night. Classic!
I do question the time slot in which he appeared in, but we will see how that translates in the coming days. As for his appearance this week, I never thought he would speak.
He doesn't need to. Why talk now? There are still tons of weeks to fill until April. All of this is leading to WrestleMania in Miami. Not next week. Or even next month.
We still have almost three months to go. There is no need to rush anything right now...
Now, to the absolute best part of WWE Raw!!!
1. Brodus Clay Was Epic
10 of 10This was just excellent. I loved this. I LOVED this! Seeing Curt Hawkins get "squashed" was great, but here are just a few reasons why I am in 100 percent agreement with this character change for Brodus Clay:
1. If this was any sort of "punishment," then I agree with the move. Brodus screwed up big time on Twitter awhile back, and he needs to pay for his actions. If this is the way, so be it! Defend it all you want, but you have to be held accountable for what you do in life. Good or bad!
2. If this was not any sort of "punishment," then I also agree with the move. How many monster heels are there right now? What would Clay add that is any different than them? Exactly. You can only have so many big "bad guys" destroying guys in under a minute each week and look powerful.
3. This gives some TV time to a few girls from FCW. Naomi was great on NXT Season 3, which was easily the best weekly WWE show ever produced. Also, it gives Lynn some time on WWE Raw. She was wrongly bashed unfairly for her favorite match being Alicia Fox vs. Melina. It was just her opinion, folks. The backlash she received for that comment was just uncalled for.
4. Why not let him play a "Rikishi" role for awhile? See how he does with it. I seem to remember Rikishi being incredibly popular in 2000 dancing and putting his backside in people's faces. Santino seems to be doing well with a "cobra" on his arm. If it works...wonderful! If not, let him "snap" in a few weeks and go heel on his dancers and everybody at ringside!
In closing, it shocked fans. It gave us something new. Three new talents appeared on Raw, and the world is talking. Get ready because I am huge fan...my praise for Brodus Clay will not stop!
