Pro Bowl Snubs 2012: Darren Sproles and the Biggest Offensive Snubs

Tim KeeneyDec 27, 2011

The Pro Bowl rosters have been announced, and as always, there a bunch of players who have been snubbed.

It's unfortunate, but it will continue to happen every year since there's no way to make everyone happy. Here's a look at three offensive players who should be a little upset.

Darren Sproles, New Orleans Saints

He very well may be a product of the system and may only have a specialized role, but you can't argue against the numbers.

Sproles averaged seven yards per carry and pulled in a massive 81 catches for a total of 1,244 yards and eight touchdowns.

Matt Forte was certainly having a terrific season, but he was really starting to slow down before his injury and he struggled to find the end zone all season. Sproles should have been picked over him, as he was far more explosive and has played the whole year.

Don't forget Sproles' contributions as a kick and punt returner, as well.

Aaron Hernandez, New England Patriots

I know it would be hard to take a second tight end from the same team, but that's just a testament to how good New England's tight ends have been.

Rob Gronkowski is the obvious choice, but Antonio Gates really shouldn't have been the second TE selected.

Gates is a Hall of Famer, but he's on the decline. He has 59 catches for 672 yards and six touchdowns this year. Good numbers, yes, but look at Hernandez's.

His 72 catches for 772 yards and six touchdowns put him above Gates. They've both dealt with injuries, so no one gets an advantage or disadvantage there.

Tryon Smith, Dallas Cowboys

According to Pro Football Focus, which does extensive linemen rankings, Smith was the best right tackle in the NFC this year.

Jason Peters, who was selected as the starting left tackle, was far and away the best lineman in the NFL this year according to PFF. Smith was the "only player even close" to Peters.

The fact that he didn't even get a bench spot on the team is a little disconcerting, as he clearly deserves it.
