LA Lakers Rumors: Drastic Times Call for Gilbert Arenas Measures
The LA Lakers, according to Jim Buss, are good to go. I beg to differ.
The franchise that is used to reloading has entered into a new era of playing it safe. The roster is bound to stay that way it is currently, and that means help will have to come from intangibles like harder work and work ethic.
Stuff like team chemistry will have to outweigh an extra big man. Getting better on defense will just need to be good enough, because no additional backcourt help will be granted. Thanks can be given to Buss, who has closed his daddy's checkbook.
The Lakers need size, but are not in the market to procure any. But a team that wants to go small has little depth in that regard either.
The Sporting News reports Buss is quite content with the Lakers as they are currently constructed. That should come as nauseating news to those wearing purple and gold. Here is what Buss had to say:
"I think we have a championship team, and that's without making another move. I'm not as worried about this team making a run for the championship as maybe everybody else is. I know people are shook up and especially after Lamar left, but give it time.
"
Time is not on the Lakers' side, though. They are 0-2 through the first two games of the season and seem to have become worse in every quarter.
The Lakers need to figure out where they are going to exploit mismatches and embrace it. Without Lamar Odom, they gave up a size advantage. It's time to add depth in scoring by taking on Gilbert Arenas.
The man formerly known as a good NBA player is just sitting out there and waiting for a team to take a chance on him.
Back on December 20, Brian Kamenetzky reported that Arenas was interested in the Lakers, but they were cool toward signing him.
Well, they need to heat up fast. Josh McRoberts is banged up, Kobe Bryant is hurt and so is Pau Gasol. This team has nothing to lose in a gamble that is all upside when you consider where they are headed currently.
