Joseph Villavisencio: Texas A&M Aggies Mourn the Loss of Offensive Lineman

Eric BowmanDec 23, 2011

The Texas A&M Aggies were hit with terrible news today when they learned that offensive lineman Joseph Villavisencio died in a tragic car accident. He was only 22 years old.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Villavisencio swerved his vehicle to avoid a buzzard but ended up crashing head on with an 18-wheeler.

Villavisencio started one game as a freshman in 2008, but was primarily a backup. He saw action against Kansas and Baylor this year, and was preparing for the Meineke Car Care Bowl, which takes place on New Year's Eve.

Mike Sherman, who was recently fired by Texas A&M, recruited and coached Villavisencio, and he had nothing but positive words to say about they young football player.

"He was one of the most respectful and high-character players I’ve ever coached. It was an honor and privilege to have known him and coached him.”

Sherman said everyone will remember him as a person "who would do anything for anybody."

The Aggies had their last practice before heading to the bowl game on Thursday. They will be playing with heavy hearts as they remember the life of their teammate.

According to the Aggies team website, Villavisencio was a radiological health engineering major. The paper states that he is survived by his sister, Mikeala; his mother, Christine; and his father, Jose.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Villavisencio family as well as the Aggies during these difficult times.
