Ohio State Football Recruiting: Defensive Studs Will Lead to Buckeye Domination
Anyone who has anything to do with offense in the Big Ten, who isn't Ohio State, has reason to be afraid. The recruiting class that the university is bringing in for the 2012 season is nothing short of amazing, and it all starts up front.
Scout.com lists four players that have already committed to Ohio State as five-star recruits. Three of those players are on the defensive line.
Noah Spence is ranked as the best defensive end in the country, Adolphus Washington is No. 3 and both will be Buckeyes.
Tommy Schutt, the fifth-ranked defensive tackle in the country, is 6'3" and 290 pounds. He'll be anchoring the middle of the defensive line.
It doesn't stop there, either. Se'Von Pittman is a four-star defensive end, while Joshua Perry is a four-star outside linebacker. In two to three years, if the Buckeyes don't have the best pass rush in all of college football, something will have gone terribly wrong.
What's more, just in case anyone is ever able to throw the ball, four-star cornerback Najee Murray and safety Devan Bogard will be there.
This is the class that will greet Urban Meyer in his first season in Columbus. Somehow, I think they will get through the cut scholarships and one-year postseason ban. Things are just fine in Buckeye land.
Actually, they're more than fine. This team is going to dominate the Big Ten. With that kind of haul, they can still be the best defensive front in the country if a few of these players bust; that's the scariest thing about this.
Other schools have great recruiting classes. However, none can bring the kind of depth that Ohio State has at such a key position.
It almost doesn't matter what the Buckeyes do on offense, although they will be fine on that side of the ball as well. When you have the kind of defense that Ohio State will have, teams won't be able to score anything against you.
Get used to the names of all of these recruits. You'll be hearing them for a while in big games. This class will dominate the Big Ten and win at least one national championship before leaving Columbus.
