I Hope You Enjoyed Kellen Moore's 50th Win, It's the Last You'll See of Him
In his final collegiate game, Boise State’s Kellen Moore put on a fantastic show of why he is one of the best quarterbacks the game has seen.
He owns the record for most wins by a quarterback at an incredible 50 after Thursday’s win over Arizona State and is largely the reason why the Broncos have continued to have success since their 2006 Fiesta Bowl win.
Unfortunately, last night was the last time we will see him start at quarterback.
Moore is simply not cut out to be a legitimate NFL player. He lacks the height necessary to see over the offensive line, the arm strength to zip the ball into tighter spots and his throwing motion is flat-out wrong. It looks like he winds up to throw the ball, which leaves it exposed for longer at a more accessible place for defenders.
Plus, he has never been particularly good when under real duress. His offensive line has consistently been one of the best pass-protection units in the country and is first in the country in sacks allowed. He won’t have that kind of time in the NFL.
None of these traits are things teams look for when drafting a quarterback.
Moore may get drafted in a late round because a team like the Patriots—they are known to stockpile late picks—has the ability to use a luxury pick and hope for the best.
Tim Tebow was able to completely change his throwing motion and is now a legitimate NFL quarterback, but he is also 6’3” and is one of the most mobile quarterbacks in the league. Moore is a true pocket passer and is not mobile at all—his career rushing total is minus-133 yards.
Don’t get me wrong, I will always remember watching him play and sincerely hope that he will be remembered for all of the great things he has done in his illustrious career at Boise State.
But there is no way he plays more than a few snaps in the preseason in the NFL.
