Anquan Boldin Injury: Knee Surgery Will Keep Ravens WR out Two Weeks

Andrew KulhaDec 22, 2011

The Baltimore Ravens are going to be without stud wide receiver Anquan Boldin for the rest of the regular season due to a knee injury.

The team had confirmed yesterday that Boldin had sat out practice with a knee injury and that he was officially on the injury report.

Ravens insider Aaron Wilson tweeted today that the injury was in fact a "slight tear to the meniscus," and that he will be undergoing surgery to repair it:

Obviously, the injury was a lot more serious than originally thought.

Boldin is expected to be back in time for the playoffs though, so clearly, this is more of a cautionary move than anything else.

Looking at the remainder of their schedule it would seem as the smartest move would be to allow him the time to rest, especially if this is indeed something the Ravens think could help him.

It's better to do this now and get it over with, rather than risk a re-injury during the last two games of the season.

It would be even worse to lose him in the playoffs.

With two games remaining and both the Ravens and Steelers at 10-4 the division is still up for grabs, but the Ravens do have the tie-breaker with two wins against them earlier in the season.

Obviously there plan is to play it safe here and prepare for the playoffs.

I can't say I blame them.
