Floyd Mayweather: Why Jail Time for Money Makes 2012 Pacquiao Fight Impossible

Kyle VassaloDec 22, 2011

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is such a delicate fight that we've seen that one false move completely derails the superfight that could single-handedly resurrect boxing.

Floyd Mayweather is going to jail for 90 days after pleading guilty in a domestic violence case.

While there will still be plenty of time to get this fight up and running in 2012 once he is released, we've seen far less significant matters torch this fight since November of 2009.

Be it a blood test, one fighter getting their feathers ruffled or a timing issue, an excuse will always arise that leaves us waiting for a fight that is never coming.

The window for this fight to go down is closing in a hurry. The enamor surrounding this fight isn't losing steam, but frustrations are growing.

Now that Mayweather is going to be doing time in jail, are they expected to jump right to the drawing board, map out this fight and give the fighters (and a previously incarcerated Mayweather in particular) time to train for the fight of their lives?

Both camps are incredibly stubborn and both seem to be holding out for the perfect venue, terms and conditions for this fight to go down.

The Utopia in which we'd have to live in to make both parties happy does not exist. Mayweather making a boneheaded move and landing himself behind bars only makes things more challenging.

May 5th is now out the window and unless Pacquiao decides to remain idle and wait out Mayweather's jail sentence with him (which is highly unlikely), this fight isn't going down anytime soon.
