NBA Rumors: Breaking Down the Latest Kenyon Martin Updates
Kenyon Martin's contract was bought out by his Chinese team Xinjiang, but with the Knicks K-Mart shopping, don't be surprised to see him land in the Big Apple once the technicalities of his contract are taken care of.
Marc Berman of the New York Post says that according to Martin's agent,
""(Martin) is flying back to the U.S. for Christmas, but he is ineligible to play until after his team's season in the Chinese Basketball Association is over -- likely in mid-March."
"
He'll need to get clearance after the Chinese season is over, but don't be surprised to see the Knicks play the waiting game and bring him in to help them with their postseason push.
The Knicks know they aren't going to be getting Martin in his prime even if all of the pieces fall into place, but they certainly can't be faulted for pursuing the low-risk veteran.
Their star-laden lineup is jam-packed with talent, but they are sorely lacking in areas that will bar them from making a deep run in the East.
If they're going to take down teams like the Bulls and Heat, making non-blockbuster moves like this one are a great way to beef up their team and bring them one step closer to contention.
There is no chance that Martin becomes an All-Star, but he could have a huge impact. Even playing a shortened season in an already shortened season, Martin would be coming in at just the right time and if the Knicks still need him when he's eligible to be had, why not go for it?
