Floyd Mayweather: Pac-Man Will Have To Wait as Money May Heads to Jail

Gabe ZaldivarDec 21, 2011

Floyd Mayweather has found a new and eventful way to destroy another chance for Money May and Manny Pacquiao to finally meet in the ring.

ESPN broke news that Floyd Mayweather Jr., "has been sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty Wednesday to a charge of misdemeanor battery domestic violence and no contest on two counts of harassment."

The report issues that Mayweather will report to jail on January 6th. That means you can pretty much say goodbye to a bout that would have taken place on May 5th pitting Mayweather against his doppelganger in talent, Manny Pacquiao.

That shouldn't really be an issue seeing as how that fight was a pipe dream anyway. Promoter Bob Arum was eager to make another fight happen well before Pacquiao would step into the ring with Mayweather.

Just The Facts

According to the report, Mayweather admitted that he indeed hit his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris. The fact that the attack took place in front of their two children swayed the judge to make sure Mayweather would serve jail time.

In the police report, Mayweather is said to have even threatened Harris with death by asserting he would make her "dissappear." Their 10-year-old son was so frightened that he fled the house to go find security.

Fallout

Mayweather has never enjoyed the type of popularity that Manny Pacquiao has, and this will only serve to indemnify him with sports fans around the world.

What every fan wants to know is if this will hurt the chances of the two fighters meeting next year. The obvious answer is that it all but kills that hope.

Pacquiao is not going to wait, and will be looking for the next best fight to keep his fitness and form. The May 5th day is dead, but you have to figure Pacquiao will have a bout all lined up by the time the Mayweather is close to being released.

Having a scar on one's reputation as incarceration due to domestic violence will not sit well with fans that are expected to pay to see his fights.

The fight with Pac-Man still looms as a possible fight of the century. But the growing sentiment may be that most wouldn't care if they ever see Mayweather in the ring again.
