5-Star DE Jordan Jenkins Sets Decision Date: Which of 4 Finalists Has the Edge?
College football recruiting is heating up, and as the days go by, it's getting a lot more interesting.
Defensive end Jordan Jenkins—one of the best at his position—is one step closer to making his decision. He is an explosive player that generates a ton of pressure on opposing quarterbacks and will make anybody's defensive line that much better.
Jenkins started off with quite a few offers and has trimmed it down to just four teams.
Here they are along with the chances each team has at landing the top recruit.
Auburn Tigers
1 of 4Jenkins had a great visit with the Auburn Tigers, but I have them as the least likely team to land him. They are the furthest team from competing right away, as all of the other teams are contenders right now.
Here are a few things he said after the visit with the Tigers.
"I have always liked it at Auburn," Jenkins said. "The coaches are easy to talk to and I just feel good when I am at Auburn."
"The biggest thing for me will be relationships and who I feel the best with. I have a strong relationship with the six schools I am considering and that is key for me."
Georgia Bulldogs
2 of 4Georgia does have an advantage, considering Jenkins is from the state. However, Georgia is already loaded on the defensive side of the ball and has two solid defensive ends in James Deloach and Leonard Floyd. Although, he would probably play linebacker if he went to Georgia.
You really can't underestimate the home field advantage, but there are two other schools that are considered the front runners.
Here are few things he said about Georgia:
""I am so glad I took this visit because I was close to ruling Georgia out for me. Said Jenkins. I saw a lot of things I liked, I got to spend really good time with the coaches and players, and I was a little surprised."
"I got to really sit down with Mark Richt and Coach [Todd] Grantham while I was there and it was great. I had no idea that I would be able to play so quickly there. Coach Grantham really broke things down showing me where I would play, how I would be used, and how they would move Jarvis Jones around to get me on the field."
"
Alabama Crimson Tide
3 of 4Alabama is one of those teams considered the front runner for the 5-star recruit. The Crimson Tide are losing a few players, and he'll be able to come in and contribute right away. He'd be joining a team that's probably in the best position to win a national championship next season.
Here are some of the things he said about Alabama:
"The visit to Alabama was one of the best visits I’ve ever had," said Jordan Jenkins. "I had a great time. Everything was great.
"The game was great. Two top teams playing against each other. That was the national championship right there.
"The atmosphere was the best part of the game. Everyone was loud. Nobody was quiet the whole game. Everyone was going crazy. It was great."
"Coach Saban was really saying I might get a chance to play as long as I work hard and learn the playbook," he said. "He said I can’t play if I don’t know what I am doing. They are losing some linebackers. He said I can be another Courtney Upshaw- type player."
Florida Gators
4 of 4Florida is the other team that is considered the favorite to land Jenkins. It's a team that is close to home, it's extremely talented and on the rise and he'd get to play for a defensive minded coach in Will Muschamp. Out of all the teams to play for, he'd probably be able to contribute right away on this team.
During his visit, he spoke the most about Florida and had once again had a great time. Which having fun seems to be extremely important to him in his decision.
""It was a great trip for me. I got to spend a bunch of time with some of the players and went to position meetings with them. Jenkins said. I heard all the seniors talk for a little bit before we went to the movies about advice and how they feel about the team. I spent most of my time with Ronald Powell and Neiron Ball. Neiron is a pretty cool guy and it wasn't awkward or anything when I started hanging out with him and the team , they all have a relaxed enjoyable demeanor to them all and it was fun being around them. Even during the defensive meetings it wasn't like you were on a military drill team they were all jumping around ready for the game and I was glad I was there to see that so I can actually see what they're all like around the coaches and how the coaches would coach me."
"
His decision will come January 9.
