WWE News: First Half of WWE 2012 Pay-Per-View Schedule Revealed

Drake OzDec 21, 2011

One of the biggest criticisms you’ll hear about the WWE is that the company has far too many pay-per-views.

I completely agree with those who complain about the fact that the WWE has a whopping 13 PPVs per year, and still expects us to buy them at 50 bucks a pop.

As it turns out, I guess WWE officials don’t really care what we think as it looks like the PPV schedule isn’t going to change too much in 2012.

Here is the early WWE PPV schedule for early 2012:

  • January 29th – Royal Rumble in St. Louis, MO
  • February 19th - Elimination Chamber in Milwaukee, WI.
  • April 1st – WrestleMania in Miami, FL
  • April – Extreme Rules in Chicago, IL (likely the 22nd or 29th)
  • May 20th - Over The Limit in Raleigh, NC.
  • Money in the Bank is scheduled for June, in Las Vegas, NV
"

There are a couple of things worth pointing out here.

For starters, the 2011 June pay-per-view was Capitol Punishment, while Money in the Bank took place in July. However, there’s no mention of Capitol Punishment here, which means it's either flip-flopped months with MITB or it's been scrapped altogether.

I’m kind of hoping it’s the latter. Capitol Punishment wasn’t a very good pay-per-view this year, and given its name, it's pretty much relegated to Washington, DC. I’m not really a fan of hosting one PPV in the same city every year, so this may eliminate the possibility.

What's more, the fact that Over the Limit and MITB are still on the PPV schedule after the expected launch of the WWE Network on April 1, 2012 could indicate that B-Level pay-per-views will not move to the network like many people are expecting.

Obviously, that could change between now and then. However, at least for the time being, it appears as if 2012 will have pay-per-views just like 2011 did.

Personally, I think that non-Big Four pay-per-views should indeed move to the WWE Network. However, with the uncertainty surrounding the WWE's new channel, I could certainly see why the WWE would keep them off it.
