WWE: Why the Divas Division Needs Amy "Lita" Dumas
Since leaving WWE in November 2006, Amy “Lita” Dumas has generally kept a low profile. She's toured with her punk rock band, The Luchagors, hosted her own radio show in Atlanta, PunkRockalypse, and made sporadic appearances for WWE, most recently at last week's Slammy Awards, where she presented Kelly Kelly with an award.
She was also, of course, recently arrested for driving with a suspended license in her home state of Georgia. While the incident was certainly embarrassing, and having her mug shot plastered all over the place couldn't have been fun for former Women's Champion, it was still small potatoes compared to the antics of her former beau, Matt Hardy, and his brother, Jeff.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
So, all in all, Lita's life away from wrestling hasn't been too bad. But it might be time for the once popular babyface diva to consider a return to America's No.1 wrestling promotion. Certainly, WWE management should seriously think about offering her a contract to come back, even for only a part time schedule
For one thing, Dumas is desperately needed in the stagnant WWE women's division, which has struggled greatly in the past few years due to inexperienced performers and general apathy from the booking team.
Girls like Kelly and Eve try, but neither have managed to replicate anything close to the success Lita had as top female babyface during her run from 2000-2005. Whether it is down to their own flaws, or their shoddy treatment from the booking team, they just couldn't succeed in getting over with the masses.
On the heel side, things have not fared much better. Pin Up Strong (Beth Phoenix and Natalya) suffered from poor booking (WWE scribes apparently don't realize that monster heels need to , you know, win a lot), and never gained the credibility that they needed to in order to be seriously. Phoenix may have the title right now but it ultimately doesn't matter much—the women are still low on the totem pole.
So the flagging division is in a trouble right now. And a returning star like Lita could help shake things up. Indeed, the charismatic Dumas is someone fans can get fully behind and the other face divas, like Kelly and Eve, would be aided by getting the rub from her in tag matches and interviews. The veteran Dumas may even be able to take on a trainer role and give the two tips backstage on how to improve as performers and wrestlers.
Beth Phoenix and Natalya would also be helped by working with Lita. While the fans are indifferent to the heel tandem at the moment, were they to attack and beat down a respected figure like Lita, fan hatred would surely be rained down upon them.
Of course, there are risks in any comeback and it might be misguided to assume Lita can just waltz back in and reclaim her former glory.
Certainly Canadian female wrestling star Trish Stratus didn't exactly set the world on fire when she returned to WWE earlier this year. It was almost stunning to hear the future Hall of Famer come out to complete silence during her appearances on pay-per-view and television. So what happened? Has Trish never been as over as WWE have assumed? Or, and perhaps this is more likely, has the women's division been marginalized and mistreated by WWE for so long that no one, not even an icon like Trish, could make the fans care? Who knows? But it is something Lita should be careful of if she is to make a return. Star power can only mean so much.
However, despite the potential problems, a Lita return is a risk worth taking. Frankly, the women's division can't get into any more of a sorry state, and it's hard to believe she could make things any worse. Indeed, on paper, it is a move that can only have benefits for the women's division and WWE. Assuming Lita is willing, and Jim Ross has mentioned she is open to doing more, the promotion should give it a shot.
