NFL Playoff Picture: Rob Gronkowski and Most Feared Playmakers in Postseason

Eric BowmanDec 20, 2011

The NFL playoffs are right around the corner, and since we already know some of the teams that have made it, it gives us a good idea as to which star athletes are going to put their opponents in a state of panic.

These players have been tough to stop all season long, and once postseason play is underway, they're all going to turn it up a notch.

It's the big stage, and that is when the true stars really shine. When their team calls on them to deliver, they come through in the clutch.

With that said, here are a few feared playmakers for the playoffs.

Rob Gronkowski

When he's not posing with porn stars, the "Gronk," as he's sometimes called, is busy shredding apart opposing defenses.

Never before has a tight end been so dominant in one season.

Gronkowski leads the NFL with 15 touchdown catches and is truly a force who will not be denied in the postseason.

The 6'6", 265-pound tight end will continue to terrorize teams in the playoffs, helping the New England Patriots rise to the top.

The one guy who has seemed near-invincible all season long will keep performing at a high level when the playoffs start.

There's no pressure on Rodgers anymore now that the Green Bay Packers are no longer undefeated. It's a blessing in disguise for Green Bay because Rodgers and company just get back to basics and play football.

Having a first-round bye won't hinder this team, as Rodgers will continue his superb play against whoever the Packers face.

With 40 touchdowns passes and only six interceptions, Rodgers is playing lights out this year, and he will be very hard to stop.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback is only 304 yards away from Dan Marino's single-season passing record, and he's likely to get that this coming week.

Brees has thrown for over 300 yards for five straight games now, and he's not cooling off anytime soon.

The Saints are on a huge roll thanks to the stellar performance of Brees. Once New Orleans starts the playoffs, they'll look to Brees to take them all the way.

Should the Saints lose, it won't be on Brees but rather the defense, simply because Brees will definitely do his part to put the Saints in position to win the game.

Calvin Johnson

The Detroit Lions aren't officially in the playoffs yet, but with two more wins than the seventh-place team in the NFC, Detroit would have to really choke in the final two games of the season.

I think they'll be fine and will earn a wild-card spot, which will excite the entire team. Since Calvin Johnson is the Lions' best player, teams will be scheming against him, but that doesn't mean they can shut him down.

The Lions may only play one postseason game, but the team they go head-to-head with will be worrying about Johnson at all times.

With 14 touchdown receptions on the year and second in the NFL in receiving yards, Johnson has been the best wide receiver in the NFL this season, and nobody is going to prevent him from playing great football in his first ever playoff game.
