Kevin Kolb Injury: Updates on Cardinals QB's Week 16 Status and Fantasy Value

Adam WellsDec 19, 2011

The Arizona Cardinals have managed to crawl back into the postseason race, but they haven't been able to depend on quarterback Kevin Kolb much at all since the end of October.

Kolb did return to the starting lineup two weeks ago against Dallas, and he led the team to a victory in that game with 247 yards and one touchdown pass.

The good luck did not last, because Kolb suffered a concussion against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14, and his status for Christmas Eve is still up in the air.

UPDATE: Saturday, Dec 24 at 11:55 a.m. EST

Rotoworld is reporting that Kolb has been ruled out for Saturday's game in Cincinnati.

UPDATE: Wednesday, December 21st at 1:45 p.m. EST

Kolb appears to be making progress.

Given this news, it is very likely that he will be medically cleared before the Cardinals crucial Week 16 game. It still remains to be seen if he will start even if he is physically able to.

The news on Kolb right now is not encouraging. According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, the 27-year-old quarterback is having problems with light and noise right now.

I am no concussion expert, but I do know that if you can't handle hearing noise or seeing light, you are probably not going to be very good at playing in an NFL game. They tend to feature a lot of colors moving around, and the crowds can get loud.

And given the sensitive nature of concussions and the brain, Kolb will likely have to see dramatic improvement over the next 48 hours if he wants to have any chance to play.
