Ohio State Football Recruiting 2012:5 Targets Urban Meyer Still Needs to Reel in

Edwin WeathersbyDec 19, 2011

Urban Meyer has already gotten Tommy Schutt and Se'Von Pittman to switch to the Buckeyes and shocked us all yesterday when Noah Spence announced for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes are coming back fast.

Their 2012 recruiting class efforts have not gone as well as they could, with the looming sanctions hovering over their heads.

Let's take a quick look at some Buckeye recruiting targets.

Demetrious Cox, DB

1 of 5

Cox is a 6'1", 185-pound safety prospect from Pennsylvania. I think he fits best in a zone-oriented scheme, as he can float around and use his instincts to make plays.

Cox shows solid awareness on the back end, excellent ball location skills and has a knack for getting his hands on the football. He'll plug the run with confidence, but also has the route recognition and natural range to make plays on the ball in the passing game.

Kyle Dodson, OT

2 of 5

Dodson is a big OL prospect from Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio that stands in the 6'6", 300-pound range. What I like the most about him is he's tough, physical and looks to finish each block.

Dodson is a Wisconsin pledge, but is looking hard at Ohio State because Urban Meyer has worked him up in a frenzy. Earlier in the process, the Buckeyes looked good but the resignation Jim Tressel folded their hand and led Dodson to Madison.

Now, the Buckeyes are back in the race.

David Perkins, ATH/OLB/RB

3 of 5

6'2", 210-pounds, Perkins is a big athlete that can play multiple spots. His best spot likely is at OLB, where he can combine his size and speed with good athleticism and pursuit ability.

Perkins is also a solid RB prospect as well.

He's scheduled to visit Ohio State on January 13 and also has visited Missouri, with Arizona being in the mix as well. I like the Buckeyes' chances in this race, but Perkins does seem a bit confused at the moment.

Joel Caleb, WR

4 of 5

Caleb dazzles as a 6'2", 200-pound WR that is just a solid athlete and a playmaker. He is not the fastest, but Caleb uses good route running, solid foot quickness and strength to make plays.

Georgia, Ohio State, Virignia Tech and West Virginia are the top four schools Caleb is keen to at the moment.

He took a trip to Columbus earlier this month and was hosted by Curtis Grant. Stan Drayton oversaw the trip, and Caleb had a great time.

Ifeadi Odenigbo, OLB/DE

5 of 5

The uncertainty of the coaching situation in Columbus has affected Odenigbo's views on Ohio State, but he still has them in his top four along with Northwestern, Stanford and Notre Dame.

Odenigbo is a phenomenal athlete. He shows easy movement skills, elite snap quickness, length and even room to size up more weight and strength. He's already 6'4", 220 pounds and can play OLB or DE depending on your front.

He seems bent on going to an academic power, but Meyer should be recruiting Odenigbo hard to help the Buckeyes' pass rush going forward.
