NBA Rumors: Where the Top Free Agents Are Headed
Most of the big-name free agents have already made their commitments for next season, but there are a number of other available players on the open market who can still make a substantial impact.
This year's free-agency class wasn't exactly latent with talent to begin with, and now, the pool is as shallow as ever.
As teams look to make last-minute improvements, look for interest in the remaining competent free agents to sky-rocket. While this will increase the possibilities of where who will sign, we do have a general grasp of where the remaining athletes are headed.
Kris Humphries
1 of 7Kris Humphries and the New Jersey Nets began negotiating a potential return a few days ago.
The Nets pursuit of Dwight Howard definitely effects their negotiations with Humphries, but the team is in need of some size, and given the forward enjoyed the best season of his career in New Jersey, he will jump at the chance to create some stability in his life.
Howard isn't going anywhere for now, and neither is Humphries.
Kris Humphries will remain with New Jersey Nets.
Samuel Dalembert
2 of 7After missing out on Marc Gasol, Tyson Chandler and Nene Hilario, the Houston Rockets are hungry for a way to bolster their way front court, leading them to turn their attentions to Samuel Dalembert.
Dalembert entertained the idea of going to the Miami Heat, but that was a long shot even before the Shane Battier signing. The Sacramento Kings could once again come into play, but not at the steep price Dalembert is demanding.
You know what they say, though, fourth time is a charm.
Samuel Dalembert syncs up with Houston Rockets.
Andrei Kirilenko
3 of 7Andrei Kirilenko could still remain in Russia, but even though he will not be making the same tier of money he was last season, it is unlikely he passes up another pay-day.
The Sacramento Kings have expressed an interest in adding the defensive-savvy Kirilenko to their arsenal. On their young team, his veteran presence would be welcomed to say the least.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, fellow Russian Mikihail Prokhorov and the New Jersey Nets have shown an interest in acquiring Kirilenko's services as well. The forward played well alongside Deron Williams, and has a real opportunity to compete for a title with the Nets.
Expect to see Kirilenko reunite with Williams this season.
Andrei Kirilenko will head to the New Jersey Nets.
James Posey
4 of 7James Posey did not fit into the Indiana Pacers game scheme anymore, and finds himself on the open market as a result.
At 34, Posey isn't going to break any records, but is a solid perimeter performer who can help any team with a need in that department. With Jeff Green done for the season, the Boston Celtics have a hole to fill in that area, and Posey is a potential candidate.
The Celtics do not have money to burn, and given that Posey will prove to be a cheaper option than Al Thornton, the road has been paved for his return to Boston.
James Posey heads to the Boston Celtics.
DeShawn Stevenson
5 of 7It's a scary to realize that DeShawn Stevenson is among the top free agent candidates left on the market, but it's a fact nonetheless.
Stevenson can be a catalyst on the defensive side of the ball, as he has proven he can contain the league's elite perimeter players on multiple occasions. His attitude is undesirable, but in this market, teams cannot set too high a set of standards.
The departures of Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer have left a return to Dallas possible for Stevenson. He will seek a longer-term contract, something the Mavericks will not be willing to offer.
That being said, Stevenso's stock is not exceptionally high and will be forced to take whatever is Dallas is offering.
DeShawn Stevenson will return to the Dallas Mavericks.
Gilbert Arenas
6 of 7Gilbert Arenas has a list of teams that he would prefer to sign with, and it is likely he winds up with one of them.
The list includes the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and any team that obtains Dwight Howard. Hard to argue with Arenas' logic this time around, as his parameters ensure he plays for a team that is contending for a title.
It is unclear if the Heat or Knicks have enough money and minutes to appease Arenas, so his presence in New York or Miami will remain long-shots.
There are a number of teams that Howard could land with, including the Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Lakers and Chicago Bulls. It is unlikely that Howard is moved before the start of the season, so Arenas' best bet would be to sign with the front-runner for the center's services.
That would be the Nets, who are staging a coup in this weak free-agency market.
Gilbert Arenas follows Kris Humphries and Andrei Kirilenko to the New Jersey Nets.
Arron Afflalo
7 of 7UPDATE: Arron Afflalo has reportedly agreed to a new five-year deal with Denver.
Arron Afflalo is the most skilled athlete left on the open market, ensuring there will be no shortage of interest in the offensively-adept shooting guard.
Big money offers have not been coming Afflalo's way, and George Karl's recent sentiments suggest that he is more keen on continuing to build a team consisting of strong role players over superstars.
The shooting guard may not see the kind of pay-day he was hoping for, but he will take solace in knowing that he play a substantial role in the Denver Nuggets rotation.
Arron Afflalo will remain with the Denver Nuggets.
