Why Follow Tim Tebow When You Can Go 'Gronking' with Rob Gronkowski?

David DanielsDec 18, 2011

Rob Gronkowski gave NFL fans another potential pose for photos this Christmas.

Tom Brady is the only player on the New England Patriots whose fanbase can rival Tim Tebow’s, but he may have company.

Tebow’s surprising success this season inspired his dedicated fans to create a new version of "planking" in his honor: Tebowing.

Whether you’re on a football field, at the beach, or in the food court of your local mall, there’s no time where getting down on one knee is inappropriate.  The art of Tebowing has found a rival, though.

With the decline of Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez, Gronkowski has emerged as the best tight end in the NFL.  With that newfound title, an enthusiastic fanbase materialized and remixed Tebowing into: Gronking (via Larry Brown Sports).

The concept may not be original, but who cares?

Gronkowski has scored a whopping 15 touchdowns in 2011 and after every single one, he powerfully spikes the football onto the end-zone turf.

His signature celebration influenced the birth of Gronking.  Pose at the peak of a spike and boom: you just Gronked…is that the past tense of Gronking?

Being a Gronker (yeah, I’m just going to keep making up words) comes with far less risk than a Tebower.  Tebowing comes with critics that will pick apart your throwing motion, accuracy and passion to thank God.

While Gronking doesn’t risk having to put up with any of that junk, there are those that will urge you to put a shirt on.

Bold prediction: By the end of the season, Packers fans will have caught on and started Greging which involves holding your leg like it's broken...putting the team on your back is optional.
