NHL Video: Brad Richards Scores Game-Winner with .1 Seconds Left Against Phoenix

A few weeks ago, an article was published on the Blueshirts United Web site. The article took a look at Brad Richards' career and his short tenure with the Rangers up to that point in the season and posed the question of whether or not Richards was the new Mr. Clutch. The article has been removed as the site has went under a recent makeover. Nonetheless, Richards has been pretty impressive thus far.

Everyone knows about Richards and his monster run with the Tampa Bay Lighting en route to a Stanley Cup win in 2004. Richards' clutch play and leadership earned him the prestigious Conn Smythe Award which is awarded to the MVP of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Entering Saturday night's game against the Phoenix Coyotes, Richards has 25 points, 11 goals and 14 assists over 29 games. Out of his 11 goals, three of them were game winning goals.

Tonight, Richards added another game-winning goal to his resume as he shocked the fans and became an instant trending topic on Twitter.

Marty Biron sent the puck back up the ice and the Rangers worked the puck behind the net. The puck ended up on Richards' stick and he backhanded the puck past Mike Smith with 0.1 seconds left. This was a huge goal for the Rangers as it snapped a two-game losing streak and it may have given them the jolt they have needed.

The Rangers by no means played a great game, but they should take these two points as a blessing. The Rangers' next game is against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

Richards could be the new Mr. Clutch, but regardless he has really been a treat to watch for the Rangers this season.
