Jaguars vs. Falcons: 8 Things We Learned from Jacksonville's 41-14 Loss

David LevinDec 15, 2011

Last week, Jacksonville found itself after trailing 14-0 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This week, it could not find its way out of a wet paper bag.

The 41-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons proved the Jaguars are still a team with many questions and holes to fill.

The game also proved the Falcons are beginning to peak at just the right time as the playoffs approach.

While the running game was decent, there were still many holes and questions left unanswered.

Here is what we learned from Thursday night's game.

8. John Abraham Is a Beast

1 of 8

The Falcons defensive end essentially lived in the Jaguars' backfield all night.

Abraham had 3.5 sacks and caused two fumbles. He got to know Blaine Gabbert early and often during the game.

And when he did not sack or manhandle the rookie, he forced Gabbert into poor throws or failed attempts.

7. Matt Ryan Is a Pretty Good Quarterback

2 of 8

Ryan threw for three touchdowns during the game and made everything look like child's play. Roddy White and Julio Jones were the beneficiaries of that kind of play.

The game was so out of hand that Ryan did not play the fourth quarter.

6. Jacksonville Would Make a Good Play and Then...

3 of 8

It would just collapse.

The defensive front would stop the run only to have Matt Ryan torch the secondary for a big play.

Jacksonville looked out of touch Thursday night and could not keep up. It was a step slower.

5. Gabbert May Not Be Ready for Prime Time

4 of 8

He would make a decent throw, get sacked, fumble and then try to recover.

Gabbert had no consistency in his game. It was really hard to watch.

The touchdown to Chastin West in the final series actually looked like an NFL quarterback was playing the game.

4. The Team Held Its Breath at Halftime

5 of 8

When Maurice Jones-Drew came up limping, it was like the entire team lost its breath.

The NFL's leading rusher got taped up and ran for 112 yards, one run covering 43 yards.

Even in a game like this one, he still had his mojo.

3. There Was No Continuity at All

6 of 8

It looked like the Falcons were playing against a college team.

Atlanta could pick and choose where it wanted to throw the ball or run on short yardage.

2. Another Special Teams Touchdown

7 of 8

Kassim Osgood blocked a punt, which led to Zach Potter returning it for a touchdown.

It gave the team its first points of the night.

It was the second special team's score in as many games.

1. The Team Has 10 Days off and Then It Faces Tennessee

8 of 8

At 4-10 on the season, the Jaguars need to take the mental status of spoiler.

Tennessee hosts the Jaguars in Week 16 and it have an outside shot at the playoffs.

The Jaguars can upset the apple cart and hurt their rival's chances if they can get a win on the road.
